He Stole My Daughter's Kidney, Then Called It Love
Daisy Swift · Completed · 6.8k Words
Introduction
In my darkest hour, my first love, Lysander, reappeared; he covered the medical expenses, married me, and provided me with a home.
For five years, I believed I was the luckiest woman in the world.
Until that fateful day, four months into my pregnancy, when I overheard his conversation with a friend—
“To save Celeste, I thought... who knew it would lead to the death of Seraphina’s daughter?”
“As for Seraphina, she is a good wife, but alas... I do not love her.”
It turned out that my daughter’s death was no accident.
It was revealed that these five years of marriage were merely his quest for atonement.
The one he had always truly loved was Celeste—my ex-husband’s current wife.
As I lay on the operating table, I made a decision—
Since he had taken my daughter’s kidney, I would seize everything from him.
Including what he believed he would never lose: me.
Chapter 1
My daughter was critically ill, and my husband Marcus directly gave up treatment and threw himself into his ex-girlfriend Celeste's arms.
In my desperation, my husband's brother Lysander paid the medical fees and carefully accompanied me to care for my daughter.
But in the end, my daughter still couldn't escape death's grasp.
During those darkest days, Lysander remained by my side, and ultimately, we united in marriage.
Five years later, Lysander and I had our own child.
Until that party, when I overheard Lysander's conversation with his friend - my world completely collapsed.
...
"Lysander, what if what happened back then gets discovered?"
It was the voice of Lysander's good friend James.
What happened back then? I pressed tightly against the wall, my heartbeat beginning to accelerate.
"Back then you secretly transplanted Seraphina's daughter's kidney to Celeste. The surgery was successful, Celeste survived, but Seraphina's daughter died because of it. You even lied that she died from surgical complications..." James's voice was very low.
"When Celeste was critically ill back then, I thought transplanting one kidney shouldn't be a problem... Who could have known this would lead to Seraphina's daughter's death." Lysander's voice carried a trace of fatigue. "I married Seraphina to conceal the truth from her. Now that she is with child, she seems to have put the past behind her. Celeste is at ease, and so am I. This arrangement benefits us all. "
Only then did I realize that my daughter didn't die from surgical complications.
Lysander had secretly transplanted her kidney to Celeste.
I pressed tightly against the wall, my palm against the cold surface, feeling that chill spread all the way to my heart.
"Celeste has married Marcus and is now expecting a child. There is no possibility for the two of you anymore; it's time for you to embrace your own life." James paused briefly, then added, "Seraphina loves you deeply; she is a wonderful woman. You should cherish what you have now."
Lysander chuckled softly.
"I don't care about titles, as long as I can protect Celeste. As for Seraphina, she is indeed very good, a good wife, and will be a good mother, but unfortunately..."
He paused.
"Unfortunately, I don't love her."
Those five words stabbed into my chest like knives.
So these five years of feelings had all been Lysander's act. Everything he did was for Celeste, the woman he loved.
I bit my lower lip hard and tasted blood.
"Seraphina is quite pitiful, she's already lost one child. At least the child she's carrying now is yours, please treat her and the child well."
Lysander was silent for a while, seemingly lost in thought, then said, "I will."
I heard their footsteps gradually fade away before I dared to come out from behind the wall. My legs were weak, and I almost fell.
Five years ago, Lysander was like a savior sent from heaven.
At the time, I thought that was the last bit of warmth in my life.
But now I understand.
He never protected me, nor my daughter.
He was protecting that kidney that would soon belong to Celeste.
And his marrying me was also out of guilt.
Tears began to blur my vision.
I returned home in a daze.
As soon as I threw my bag on the sofa, Lysander wrapped his arms around my waist from behind.
"Where did you go?" he whispered in my ear, his hands beginning to roam restlessly over me.
My whole body stiffened, wanting to push him away.
"I'm tired."
"It's okay," he kissed my neck lightly, "I'll be gentle."
His touch made me nauseous. He had killed my daughter, and now he still wanted to touch me?
"Lysander, I'm pregnant, the doctor said we can't—"
"The doctor said after three months it's fine," he interrupted me, his hands already beginning to unbutton my clothes, "Baby, I miss you."
I suddenly broke free from his embrace and rushed to the bathroom to vomit.
Lysander frowned slightly, but still stepped back. "Alright, then get some rest early."
I watched his retreating figure, a wave of nausea rising in my heart.
After he went upstairs, I tremblingly dialed my brother's number.
"Brother, I regret it." My voice was choked with emotion, "I want to come home."
"Okay, I'll arrange a flight for you in five days. When you arrive, I'll pick you up." My brother's voice was firm and gentle.
I hung up the phone and wiped away my tears. When I turned around, Lysander was standing behind me.
"Who were you talking to on the phone?"
My heart was pounding in my chest. How long had he been standing there?
