Introduction
Chapter 1
I built Elias’s billion-dollar FinTech core system from the ground up. We once endured countless late nights in a basement, vowing to stick together. After the IPO, he grew obsessed with his fragile step-sister Mia. He shared my confidential code with her, ignored my pregnancy emergency, and lost our baby while comforting her. He even erased the secret love note I hid on page three of our architecture. Months later, his business crumbled, and he begged me for forgiveness with diamonds and his CEO resignation. But every chance he had is gone. I’ve built my own thriving tech company, and I’m never coming back.
Elias was Wall Street’s prodigy CEO. Five years ago, we huddled in a damp Manhattan basement, coding the brutal system architecture that built his FinTech empire.
On the day we rang the Nasdaq bell, he held me tight. The new Los Angeles branch needed him, he said. "Clara, you're exhausted," he murmured into my hair. "Step back. Rest. Our future needs an heir."
I believed him. I took a ghost role at the company, dulled my edges, and became the quiet wife waiting at home.
He flew back from LA last week, leaving his custom suitcase splayed across the living room. While tidying, I unzipped the inner mesh lining. A waterproof folder slipped out, hitting the hardwood.
Inside were three things.
One: A Polaroid from a cocktail party. Elias and Mia, foreheads resting intimately together. Her eyes crinkled in laughter, his hand resting with practiced ease on her waist. The date stamp: last Wednesday.
I remembered that night perfectly. Running a fever, I had FaceTimed him. The call lasted exactly three minutes before he sighed. "I'm exhausted. Go to sleep."
Two: A hotel room photo. Mia leaning against the headboard, swimming in Elias's oversized dress shirt. The deep, unbuttoned collar framed faint hickeys blooming on her collarbone. On the nightstand sat a men’s watch—the one I’d bought for his thirtieth birthday with my first million-dollar dividend.
Three: A printed screenshot of an iMessage thread.
[Mia: I want that pasta you made last time.]
[Elias: Okay. Heading to the apartment to make it.]
[Mia: I’ll wait. It’s thundering in LA. I’m scared.]
[Elias: Leaving after this meeting. Don't be afraid. I’m here.]
The timestamp: 11:00 PM, last Thursday. The exact night I’d texted asking about his weekend. Three hours later, he’d replied with a voice memo. Over the clatter of a spatula hitting a pan, he’d said, "In a meeting. Talk later."
I sat by the suitcase, my fingers turning to ice. My mind violently snapped back to our old basement. I used to code until 3 AM during thunderstorms. “Don't be afraid. I’m here,” he would whisper. I used to debug algorithms wearing his white shirts. He would lean against the doorframe, his gaze heavy and burning. “You look like my masterpiece in that, Clara.”
On the day we went public, he wrapped an arm around me, telling the flashing cameras, “My wife wrote seventy percent of this architecture. Thank God for her.”
I pressed a trembling hand to my stomach. A two-month-old life was growing quietly inside. I had planned to give him the ultrasound tonight as a surprise. Now, bile clawed at my throat.
The study door clicked open. Elias stepped out in immaculate loungewear, an empty mug in hand. He stopped. His gaze dropped from me to his ransacked suitcase.
"How was the pasta?" I asked.
A flicker of shock crossed his eyes, but no panic. He casually walked to the kitchen island to pour water. "She's my stepsister. She just graduated and is interning in LA entirely alone. If I don't look out for her, who will?"
My voice shook. "So you looked out for her right into a hotel bed?"
"Clara, stop being so damn sensitive!" Elias slammed his glass onto the marble. "She drank too much at the mixer. I took her to her hotel. She threw up on her shirt and borrowed mine. What was I supposed to do? Can't you try to understand me?"
"Understand what?"
"The pressure I'm under in LA! The branch is just starting. I micromanage everything!" He glared down at me, arrogant and dismissive. "Mia stays up with me until 3 AM every night. I rely on her to organize those brutal system files. And where are you?"
"You're letting her organize the core architecture?" I stared at him, staggered. "That’s classified IP."
"She’s a fast learner!" Elias cut me off ruthlessly. "Faster than you are lately. You can't even write a coherent line of code anymore. A module crashed last week. I called you in the middle of the night to log in, and you actually said you were too tired?"
I bit my lip until I tasted copper, swallowing back the truth: Because I’m carrying your child, and the morning sickness leaves me too dizzy to stand.
He didn't deserve to know.
"Elias," I said, pulling myself up. "When I wrote that architecture... on the back of the third page, I left a message for you. Did you ever turn the page to read it?"
He frowned in genuine irritation. "What third page? You scribbled random notes all over those blueprints. You really think I had time to hunt for them?"
He checked his buzzing phone. Instantly, the hard lines of his face melted into unbearable softness. His thumbs flew across the keyboard.
"Mia isn't responding. I’m flying back to LA the day after tomorrow."
"You just got back last week."
"We hit a bottleneck."
His phone rang. He answered immediately, not even bothering to leave the room. "Mia? Hey, don't cry... The hallway lights went out? Just stay in your room. I'll call building management."
He headed back to his study, his voice dropping to a tender murmur. "Yeah, it's okay. I'm here. Don't be afraid."
He paused at the door, glancing back. "The fifth-anniversary gala is tomorrow night. You're coming."
"I'm not."
"Clara, don't be childish." Elias scowled. "The board knows my wife is in New York. If you don't show, people will talk. Raven will be there. Pull yourself together, and don't wear anything that makes us look cheap."
He shut the door before I could refuse. I stood alone, staring at the suit jacket he’d tossed over the sofa. A faint scent of red roses drifted from the collar. Jo Malone. The exact perfume Mia had just flaunted on Instagram.
I retreated to the bedroom and locked the door. Opening my laptop, I bypassed the firewall and logged into the company's backend. The terminal blinked a solitary line of text at me:
[ADMIN CLARA - LAST LOGIN: 1 YEAR AGO]
I rested my palm against my stomach. Slowly, I opened my nightstand drawer, pulling out the folded ultrasound scan and a sleek flash drive. It held a critical system patch I’d been secretly coding for the past year.
I dropped them both gently into the black evening clutch I’d be carrying to tomorrow night's gala.

That roar stole my eighteenth birthday and shattered my world. My first shift should have been glory—blood turned blessing into shame. By dawn they'd branded me "cursed": cast out by my pack, abandoned by family, stripped of my nature. My father didn't defend me—he sent me to a forsaken island where wolfless outcasts were forged into weapons, forced to kill each other until only one could leave.
On that island I learned the darkest edges of humanity and how to bury terror in bone. Countless times I wanted to surrender—dive into the waves and never surface—but the accusing faces that haunted my dreams pushed me back toward something colder than survival: revenge. I escaped, and for three years I hid among humans, collecting secrets, learning to move like a shadow, sharpening patience into precision—becoming a blade.
Then, under a full moon, I touched a bleeding stranger—and my wolf returned with a violence that made me whole. Who was he? Why could he wake what I'd thought dead?
One thing I know: now is the time.
I have waited three years for this. I will make everyone who destroyed me pay—and take back everything that was stolen from me.

On my birthday, he took her on vacation. On our anniversary, he brought her to our home and made love to her in our bed...
Heartbroken, I tricked him into signing divorce papers.
George remained unconcerned, convinced I would never leave him.
His deceptions continued until the day the divorce was finalized. I threw the papers in his face: "George Capulet, from this moment on, get out of my life!"
Only then did panic flood his eyes as he begged me to stay.
When his calls bombarded my phone later that night, it wasn't me who answered, but my new boyfriend Julian.
"Don't you know," Julian chuckled into the receiver, "that a proper ex-boyfriend should be as quiet as the dead?"
George seethed through gritted teeth: "Put her on the phone!"
"I'm afraid that's impossible."
Julian dropped a gentle kiss on my sleeping form nestled against him. "She's exhausted. She just fell asleep."
