I Froze in the Dark, The Don Lost His Only Bloodline
Ladys · Completed · 6.5k Words
Introduction
The reason? The Varro Mafia family’s ironclad rule: the firstborn son inherits the entire empire. His brother’s wife, Elena, was also pregnant, our due dates separated by a single day.
To guarantee his brother’s child secured the throne, Elijah callously snuffed out my hope.
"Elena’s child must be born first," he demanded coldly. "This is what you owe them!"
He ignored the warm rush of my broken water. He ignored my agonizing, tearing contractions. He shoved me into the icy darkness, violently injecting me with a drug specifically designed to halt my labor.
Curled up on the frost-covered concrete, freezing and completely alone, I clutched my stomach in sheer agony. In the suffocating cold, I felt the terrifying stillness. I felt the tiny, fighting heartbeat inside me slowly, torturously fading away.
Hot tears streamed down my face, freezing before they hit the ground.
"My baby..." I whispered into the pitch-black void, my heart shattering into a million pieces. "Mommy is so sorry..."
Elijah sacrificed our child out of blind loyalty to his brother. But when he finally opens that frostbitten door, he won’t merely find a broken woman—he will face the terrifying, irreversible ruin of his own legacy.
Chapter 1
Prologue
I'm pregnant with Godfather Michael Johnson's child.
On my due date.
He locked me in an underground freezer at minus ten degrees.
All because the Johnson family has an iron rule: the firstborn boy inherits the entire mafia empire.
And Michael's brother Nolan Johnson's wife, Amelia Martinez, is pregnant at the same time as me, with due dates just one day apart.
To ensure Nolan's child secures the inheritance, Michael personally crushed my hope.
"Amelia's child must be born first. You owe them this!"
He ignored my broken water and severe contractions, pushing me into the freezer.
Not only that, he forcibly injected me with labor-delaying drugs.
I curled up in agony in the freezer, feeling the little life in my belly slowly losing its vitality, tears of despair streaming down my face.
"My child, mommy is so sorry..."
Chapter 1
I'm pregnant with Godfather Michael's child.
Today is my due date.
The moment my water broke, what came wasn't an ambulance.
But my husband, Michael, dragged me by my hair all the way to the freezer at minus ten degrees.
My heart clenched violently, my face pale: "Michael, you're joking with me, right?"
His response was pulling the trigger.
It was an empty gun.
My hands and feet turned blue from the cold. I broke down crying: "Michael! This is your child! You want him dead!"
"So what?" He pulled out the gun and pressed it against my forehead.
"Hold it in! Until Amelia's child is born, this baby is not allowed to come out."
"Chase, watch her."
With that, he put away the gun and left without looking back.
In the freezer, I begged: "Chase, take me to the hospital... I'll give you anything you want."
But he took out a pre-prepared syringe from his pocket and said coldly: "Evelyn Thomas, without the Johnson family, you're nothing."
Then he roughly held down my thigh and jabbed a blue liquid into me.
"That's a banned drug! Are you crazy!" I screamed in pain.
This banned drug was specifically used to torture female prisoners, to delay labor, and make them wish they were dead.
"Mr. Johnson ordered me to watch you closely, to make sure this child absolutely cannot be born before Nolan's child." Chase kicked away my hand, clutching his pants, and left, locking the freezer.
I curled up on the ground in pain, feeling amniotic fluid mixed with blood continuously flowing out.
In desperation, I trembled as I pulled out the phone from my pocket that was about to die from the cold.
It only had one number, but it was my last lifeline.
I bugged into the phone: "Michael! Save me... the freezer is so cold, I'm going into labor!"
On the other end, Michael's voice was gentle, with a patience he'd never given me: "Amelia, relax, the baby is almost out."
He was with Amelia during her delivery.
I shouted into the phone: "Michael! This is your child, too! He's kicking me... he's running out of strength!"
"That's what he deserves. You should be grateful you're carrying this child," his voice was cold.
"A year ago, when you killed Nolan, I should have thrown you into the ocean to feed the fish."
My heart turned ice cold.
This desperate agony of living death.
It overlapped with that night a year ago when Nolan died in a hail of bullets from his enemies.
Everyone believed I had drugged his drink, which prevented Nolan from escaping.
But that night, no one knew I was also drugged, which led me to climb into the bed of the wasted Michael.
The room had no lights on.
I thought he was the gentle Nolan.
"Nolan... help me... I feel so awful..."
But what I got was Michael roughly grabbing my waist and kissing me, biting through my lip.
Michael threw me hard onto the mattress.
He choked my neck with one hand. The suffocating feeling scared me, but also excited me more.
I couldn't help moaning: "Nolan... don't do this..."
He pulled off his belt and whipped it hard across my back.
The burning pain spread from my back.
He pinned me down hard, responding with even more violent thrusts.
"Scream louder."
He possessed me madly in the darkness, "Evelyn, see clearly who I am!"
His nails dug into the spaces between my fingers, veins bulging.
I forced my eyes open wide and saw that face clearly: "Michael... no!"
After that chaotic sex, Michael was forced to marry me in the church to suppress the family scandal.
"Evelyn, since you want so badly to be my wife, I'll grant your wish."
On our wedding day, he didn't kiss me, but said, "I'll make you live worse than a dog in the position of Mrs. Johnson."
In his eyes, I was a slut who killed his brother and then seduced his younger brother to climb up.
The severe pain in my abdomen brought me back to reality.
I cried into the phone: "I didn't kill Nolan... that night was really an accident..."
"Shut up! You don't deserve to say Nolan's name. After Amelia gives birth, I'll personally send you to hell."
The call ended.
The freezer door was pushed open again. It was Michael's sister, Sophia Johnson, walking in on high heels.
I touched my belly, a last glimmer of hope in my eyes: "Sophia, save my child!"
She squatted down and smiled: "Evelyn, look at yourself now, blood everywhere. How pitiful."

He Thought I'd Never Leave
When he said he was being bullied, I believed him. When he kissed me on that rooftop, I thought he felt the same. When he asked me to transfer schools with him, I said yes without hesitation.
Then I heard him bragging to his friends: "She'd save her first time for me. Hell, she'd still be thinking of me on her wedding night."
The bullying was staged. The kiss meant nothing. He just wanted me gone—so his new girl could feel more comfortable.
He thought I'd beg. He thought I'd cry. He thought I'd never actually leave.
I left the country.
And ran straight into his stepbrother.
I Died While They Threw Her a Party
Their real daughter came home. She'd only been back two years. That's all it took to erase twenty-four.
When kidnappers grabbed us, I used my body as a shield. They beat me until something inside me ruptured. I was dying from internal bleeding, but no one could tell.
My parents wouldn't even look at me. "This is your fault! None of this would've happened if it weren't for you!"
"Get downstairs and apologize to your sister. If you can't, pack your things and get out."
They threw her a party at a downtown hotel while I died alone in my room.
I thought they'd be relieved. Maybe even glad. I thought they'd just move on like I never existed.
But when they finally learned the truth, they fell apart.
Bury Me in His Regret
The kidnapper pressed the gun to my temple and asked, "Choose your wife or your sister-in-law?"
Zachary didn't hesitate. "Let Valerie go," he said.
He actually chose to save his sister-in-law! In that moment, even the baby in my belly seemed to stop kicking.
Later, they locked me in the basement. Drugs to delay labor were pumped into my veins over and over. Zachary wanted to save the "firstborn son" status for his sister-in-law's child.
When warm blood finally soaked through my skirt, I dialed the number I knew by heart with shaking hands.
"Zachary," I whispered into the phone, "our child... can't wait any longer."
The Kidney That Killed Me
A few months ago, my sister was hospitalized with kidney failure. The doctor said she needed a transplant. My family's first thought was me—the backup daughter they'd kept around all these years.
When my husband Allen took my hand with tears in his eyes and said, "Only you can save her," I agreed without hesitation.
When the doctor explained the surgical risks and potential complications, I smiled and nodded my understanding.
My parents said I'd finally learned what sisterly love meant.
Even Allen, who'd always been cold to me, held my hand gently and said, "The surgery's safe. You're so healthy, nothing will go wrong. When you recover, I'll take you to Hawaii."
But they don't know that no matter how the surgery goes, I won't be around to celebrate.
Because I just got my own test results—I have terminal brain cancer. I'm going to die anyway.

Heartbroken, I tricked him into signing divorce papers.
George remained unconcerned, convinced I would never leave him.
His deceptions continued until the day the divorce was finalized. I threw the papers in his face: "George Capulet, from this moment on, get out of my life!"
Only then did panic flood his eyes as he begged me to stay.
When his calls bombarded my phone later that night, it wasn't me who answered, but my new boyfriend Julian.
"Don't you know," Julian chuckled into the receiver, "that a proper ex-boyfriend should be as quiet as the dead?"
George seethed through gritted teeth: "Put her on the phone!"
"I'm afraid that's impossible."
Julian dropped a gentle kiss on my sleeping form nestled against him. "She's exhausted. She just fell asleep."

The Human Among Wolves
My stomach twisted, but he wasn’t finished.
"You're just a pathetic little human," Zayn said, his words deliberate, each one hitting like a slap. "Spreading your legs for the first guy who bothers to notice you."
Heat rushed to my face, burning with humiliation. My chest ached — not from his words alone, but from the sick realization that I had trusted him. That I had let myself believe he was different.
I was so, so stupid.
