Introduction
Now he’s wealthy, powerful, and about to marry my sister.
His revenge is a cruel contract: play his loving wife in public for one month, and he’ll keep our past a secret. Refuse, and he’ll expose every lie my family has built.
But living with him again is a sweet, painful torture. Because his revenge isn’t just about ruining me.
It’s about making me want him one last time… before he breaks my heart forever.
Chapter 1
LIA'S POV
The day Liam came back into my life, my wedding ring fell down the kitchen sink.
I watched it swirl in the soapy water, a little flash of silver, before it vanished into the dark drain with the coffee grounds. It felt like a sign, a final goodbye to a marriage I’d already buried years ago. I didn’t even try to fish it out.
My sister Chloe had been talking about her new fiancé for weeks. She was giddy, the way you only are when you’re truly, madly in love.
“He’s perfect, Lia,” she’d sigh on the phone. “He’s kind, he’s successful, he gets me.”
I’d smile and say all the right things, happy for her. My little sister deserved the world. I never once asked his name. If I had, maybe I could have braced myself.
Our parents’ anniversary party was at a nice restaurant downtown. I was late, as usual, my apron from the café still smelling of espresso. I pushed through the door, ready with an apology, and then I saw him.
He stood near the window, a glass of wine in his hand, listening to my father tell a story. He was taller now, his shoulders broader, and his once-boyish charm had hardened into something more serious, more powerful. But it was him.
Liam.
My heart didn’t just skip a beat; it stuttered and fell to the pit of my stomach. Five years vanished in a second. I saw the man I’d married in a dusty courthouse. The man whose heart I’d held, and then broken.
Chloe spotted me and squealed. She floated across the room, a vision in pink, and grabbed my hand. “You’re here! Come on, you have to meet Liam!”
I couldn’t move. My feet were glued to the floor. She tugged, laughing, and pulled me toward my past.
“Liam, this is my big sister, Lia. Lia, this is the love of my life, Liam.”
He turned. His eyes, the same warm hazel I used to get lost in, found mine. There was no surprise in them. Only a cold, steady calm that made my skin prickle.
He extended his hand. “We’ve met.”
His voice was deeper, smoother, like expensive whiskey. It washed over me, dragging up a thousand memories.
Chloe giggled, completely oblivious. “Really? Oh, small world!”
“Very small,” Liam said, his gaze locking onto me. He shook my hand. His grip was firm, his skin warm. A simple touch that felt like a brand. “How have you been, Lia?”
No one else heard the knife in that question. To them, it was polite. To me, it was an incision.
“Good,” I managed to say, pulling my hand back too quickly. “Congratulations. To both of you.”
“Thank you,” he said, his smile not reaching his eyes. He took a sip of his wine, his attention already drifting back to my dad, dismissing me. The message was clear: you are nothing to me now.
The party was a blur of noise and nausea. I watched him. I watched how his hand rested on the small of Chloe’s back. How he made her laugh. How my parents adored him. He was perfect. He had rebuilt himself into everything I’d once dreamed he could be, and he was giving it all to my sister.
I escaped to the parking lot as soon as I could, craving the cold night air. I fumbled for my keys, my hands shaking.
“Running away again, Lia?”
I froze. Liam leaned against a sleek black car parked next to my old sedan. He’d followed me.
“I’m going home,” I said, my voice thin.
“Chloe tells me you manage a café. That you live above it.” He pushed off the car and took a step closer. The streetlight cut sharp shadows across his face. “She says you’re single.”
“I like my life,” I said, which wasn’t really an answer.
“Do you?” He studied me, and I felt laid bare. “Because I’ve spent five years building a life I don’t particularly enjoy either.”
The raw honesty in his words startled me. “Liam, I…”
He didn’t let me finish. He pulled a long, crisp envelope from inside his tailored jacket. “I have a proposal for you.”
“I don’t want your money.”
“It’s not money.” He held out the envelope. “Open it.”
With trembling fingers, I did. Inside was a contract. The top line read: Thirty-Day Marital Performance Agreement.
My eyes scanned the cold, legal language. It outlined a plan: for one month, I would pretend to be his devoted, reconciled wife in all public and family settings. We would explain our past as a youthful elopement and a painful separation, now mending. The goal, it stated, was to provide Chloe with a “transparent understanding of my complex past” before her marriage.
“You want me to lie to my sister?” I whispered, horror rising in my throat.
“I want you to tell her the truth,” he corrected, his voice deadly quiet. “You will tell her everything. That we were married. That you walked out. That you broke me. And then you will show her what a life with me really looks like. The good, the bad, the broken.”
“This is cruel.”
“It’s honest.” He took another step, so close I could smell his cologne, something dark and unfamiliar. “If you refuse, I won’t just tell Chloe our history. I’ll also inform your parents about the seventy-thousand-dollar debt your father’s business is hiding from your mother. The one I quietly acquired last week.”
The world tilted. “You… you bought Dad’s debt?”
“I own it.” His smile was a beautiful, terrible thing. “Sign the contract, play your part, and I’ll forgive the debt. Your family’s secret stays safe. Your sister gets her happy engagement, at least for now. Refuse, and I burn it all down.”
He placed a pen in my hand. It felt like ice.
I looked at his face, searching for the boy I’d loved. I found a stranger, sculpted from bitterness and success.
“Why are you doing this?” My voice broke.
He leaned in, his lips nearly brushing my ear. His whisper was a ghost of the past, laced with poison.
“Because you taught me that revenge is the only thing that lasts, darling. And I’ve been a very patient student.”
I looked down at the line waiting for my signature. My left hand felt naked without its ring.
I signed my name.
He took the contract, his fingers brushing mine. “Welcome back, wife.”

Heartbroken, I tricked him into signing divorce papers.
George remained unconcerned, convinced I would never leave him.
His deceptions continued until the day the divorce was finalized. I threw the papers in his face: "George Capulet, from this moment on, get out of my life!"
Only then did panic flood his eyes as he begged me to stay.
When his calls bombarded my phone later that night, it wasn't me who answered, but my new boyfriend Julian.
"Don't you know," Julian chuckled into the receiver, "that a proper ex-boyfriend should be as quiet as the dead?"
George seethed through gritted teeth: "Put her on the phone!"
"I'm afraid that's impossible."
Julian dropped a gentle kiss on my sleeping form nestled against him. "She's exhausted. She just fell asleep."

The CEO's Unspoken Love
Before I could answer, he moved closer, suddenly looming over me, his face inches from mine. I felt my breath caught, my lips parting in surprise.
"Then this is the price for speaking ill of me to others," he murmured, nipping my lower lip before claiming my mouth in a real kiss. It began as punishment but quickly transformed into something else entirely as I responded, my initial rigidity melting into compliance, then active participation.
My breathing accelerated, small sounds escaping my throat as he explored my body. His touches were both punishment and pleasure, drawing shudders from me that I thought he felt reverberating through his own body.
My nightgown had ridden up, his hands discovering more of mine with each caress. We were both lost in sensation, rational thought receding with each passing second...
