Chapter 1
Sienna's POV
Four years ago, Giovanni dumped me in front of everyone at an upscale restaurant. Two weeks later, he was engaged to Rosanna. I made a fool of myself begging on his doorstep, became the laughingstock of Ferro City.
Four years later, he runs into me at Casa Valentino, assumes I'm destitute, and offers me a job as a cleaner for him.
What he doesn't know is that the plainly dressed woman standing before him is the wife of Don Alessandro Valentino—the man the entire underworld bows to.
"This is our chance! Don Alessandro Valentino is back in Ferro City for his mother's funeral. Word is he's at Casa Valentino right now!"
"We don't get many opportunities like this. If we move before the other families, we might land a deal!"
A group of suited men stride down the corridor outside Casa Valentino's private office, voices pitched just loud enough for anyone nearby to hear about their "important business."
I'd just watched Alessandro's motorcade leave. Elena's funeral ended an hour ago, and he still has a mountain of family business to handle. I should be at his side, but I've been stalling on a supplier contract for two weeks. Today it has to be finalized.
"Boss, isn't that Sienna?" Nico spots me immediately, slapping Giovanni's shoulder. "The one who was crying and begging you not to break up with her four years ago."
Four years ago, he was the one who dragged me out of Giovanni's villa, made me fall and split my knee open on the steps. I can still feel the pain.
Giovanni's gaze sweeps over me. He freezes for a second, then smirks and strides toward me.
"Sienna?" He slides his hands into his suit pockets, looking down at me. "This is Don's private office. What are you doing here? If Don's people find you, you're dead."
Nico chimes in, "Look at what she's wearing—probably working here as a cleaner. Got dumped by the boss, couldn't land another man, so she's stuck doing this kind of work to survive."
"Bargain bin clothes," Dario's eyes rake over me. "Doesn't even have a decent bag. Really hit rock bottom, didn't she?"
I glance down at my black silk dress. Plain, simple, no logos—I just finished mourning my mother-in-law Elena. Of course I'm not dressed flashily. But these idiots can only recognize sequins and designer labels.
Giovanni steps closer, eyeing me like a plaything. "How about you come work at my office as a cleaner? Ten thousand a month, room and board included." He pauses, flashing what he thinks is a charming smile. "Best part? You'll see me every day."
I stare at him coldly, about to tell them to get lost, when Giovanni's phone rings.
He answers and deliberately puts it on speaker.
Rosanna's shrill voice cuts through: "Darling, have you met with Don Valentino yet? I heard his wife came back with him this time! If we could get to know her, it would benefit both our families! I have to find a way to connect with her—"
"Alessandro isn't here right now," I say calmly, cutting off her fantasy. "And his wife has no interest in associating with people like you."
Silence on the other end.
Then Rosanna's voice turns sharp: "Who are you?! How dare you speak for Don's wife?!"
"Because I am Don's wife." Each word crystal clear.
Giovanni immediately barks into the phone, "Rosanna, don't listen to her! It's Sienna, that crazy woman. She works here as a cleaner and has the nerve to claim she's Don's woman!"
"So it's Sienna," Rosanna's voice becomes even more grating. "Giovanni, you can't really blame her for being delusional. You dumped her for me, the whole city knew about it—anyone would go crazy after that."
She pauses, her tone dripping with fake sympathy. "But seeing as we used to know each other, I suppose I could give her an opportunity—let her work as a maid in our household."
"You can leave now." I turn toward the office to handle the contract. "And the Valentino family will not be doing business with the Fontana or Rossi families."
The moment the words leave my mouth, Giovanni grabs my wrist.
His grip is painfully tight, fingers digging into my flesh. His eyes are venomous, murderous. He yanks me toward him, his voice low and threatening:
"Sienna, do you have any idea how dangerous a game you're playing?" His Adam's apple bobs. "Impersonating Don's people is bad enough, but you dare refuse business on the godfather's behalf?"
His voice drops even lower: "If you want to lose your mind, don't drag me down with you! If this gets back to Don, he'll think the Fontana family is using some crazy woman to provoke him. When that happens, my entire family will suffer because of you!"

"Don't you know," Julian chuckled into the receiver, "that a proper ex-boyfriend should be as quiet as the dead?"
George seethed through gritted teeth: "Put her on the phone!"
"I'm afraid that's impossible."
Julian dropped a gentle kiss on my sleeping form nestled against him. "She's exhausted. She just fell asleep."

The Human Among Wolves
My stomach twisted, but he wasn’t finished.
"You're just a pathetic little human," Zayn said, his words deliberate, each one hitting like a slap. "Spreading your legs for the first guy who bothers to notice you."
Heat rushed to my face, burning with humiliation. My chest ached — not from his words alone, but from the sick realization that I had trusted him. That I had let myself believe he was different.
I was so, so stupid.
