My Poor Boyfriend Was a Secret Millionaire
Joy Brown · Completed · 6.7k Words
Introduction
I didn't tell my boyfriend, Jovan. He was already hauling bricks all day and running deliveries half the night. One more thing on his shoulders, and I was scared it would break him.
So I said nothing. Just started picking up more work.
A friend got me a serving job at a private club downtown. Cash tips, she said. Pour tea, carry trays, nothing dirty about it.
I took it without telling Jovan that either. I told myself I'd surprise him with the extra money. I told myself this was me carrying my share of the weight, quietly, the way a good partner should.
That night, I pushed open the door to the biggest room in the club, tray balanced on my arm.
And there he was.
Center seat. A dozen people leaning toward him like he was the only light in the room.
Eighteen thousand a bottle. Seven or eight empty already on the table.
Chapter 1
I found out I was pregnant the same week our savings hit zero.
He pulled a watch off his own wrist and dropped it into some girl's palm like it cost nothing. Someone said it ran a million six.
I stood at the edge, where the light didn't reach. Tray still in my hands.
Near two in the morning, he wiped a lipstick mark off his jaw, picked up a yellow delivery helmet, and said he had to get home.
"Still playing house with the delivery girl?" One of his friends laughed, glass in hand. "Your old man's on you about marriage. Cut her loose before she finds out who you really are."
"She doesn't have it in her," Jovan said. Didn't even look up.
Someone else raised a glass. "To the wedding, then. Croix girl's got a temper, though — hope you know what you're marrying into."
Jovan laughed. Actually laughed.
I stood there. Head down. My hand found my stomach without my telling it to.
I did the math without wanting to. My daily wage, eight hundred. What he'd just handed away for nothing, a million six.
The baby I was carrying, the love I'd given him for three years —
worth about one fruit platter on that table. Maybe less.
I didn't cry. I just watched him walk out laughing, and I followed.
I kept my distance in a cab, told the driver to stay back. His scooter turned into a gated compound mine couldn't enter. I waited.
Half an hour later, a black Rolls-Royce rolled out. Window down. His face, clear as day, in a car that cost more than I'd earn in ten lifetimes on a factory floor.
"That's real money," the driver said, whistling.
I said nothing. I already knew.
I followed that car to a tailor shop where one suit started at six figures. To a jewelry store with no price tags at all. To a mansion district the cab wasn't allowed to enter, where the gate guard looked through me like I was smoke.
Everything I'd believed for three years had a different price tag than I thought.
By the time I got home, I was hollowed out. Not angry yet. Just empty, the way you get after standing too long in the cold.
I hadn't decided what to do with what I knew. I only knew I wasn't ready to say it out loud yet — not to him, not to myself.
My phone rang before I'd even sat down.
An unfamiliar number. A woman's voice, calm in the practiced way of someone who delivers bad news for a living.
"Is this Miss Voss? This is the care home. Your mother had a fall this evening. We need to talk to you about the surgery."
I didn't understand at first. My mind was still back in that room, still hearing she doesn't have it in her.
"How bad," I finally said.
"Her hip. She needs an operation soon, or she won't walk again. I have to be honest with you — it isn't a small amount."
I sat down on the floor of the apartment I couldn't yet afford to leave, one hand still resting on the place where, three weeks ago, I hadn't known anything was growing at all.
I didn't know yet how much the surgery would cost.
I only knew that whatever it was, I had no one left to ask for it.
The door unlocked behind me.
I heard the scooter helmet hit the floor, heard him kick off his shoes, humming something under his breath.
"Elowen? You still up?"
I wiped my face with both hands. Fast. Before he could see.
"In here," I called back, and made my voice sound normal.
Footsteps came closer.

Tango 2 the Alpha's Heart
My gaze snapped to his. He was smiling, causing my heart to skip a painful beat. Before I could respond, the music began, and my body instinctively reacted to the sweet melody.
I found myself molded to Lex's will, my feet irresistibly following the dance steps.
The crowd gasped as Lex pulled me into a more intimate position, his hands roaming over my body in a seductive manner.
The experience was both terrifying and magical, allowing me to feel every longing emotion through the dance.
I soon found myself lost in his arms.
When the music finally stopped, my arms were wrapped around his neck, his hands resting on my back, our noses almost touching. He gazed deeply into my eyes.
The ballroom fell silent.
Was he about to kiss me?

Love's Deadly Equation
I was sent to her.
To watch her. To protect her. And, when the order comes… to kill her.
My name is Keegan Caffery. I’m the Carter Mafia’s best hitman. I don’t miss. I don’t fail.
At least, I didn’t use to.
I don’t know what it is about her that got to me first—her mouth, her mind, or the way she looks at me like I’m not what she should fear.
I’ve had a gun to her head since I walked into her life.
She knows it.
And she still doesn’t run.
She just watches me back like she’s studying a problem she refuses to call impossible.
She’s the one variable I can’t control.
And God help me… I don’t want to.
I have an order. I have loyalty. I have a trigger.
But every time I imagine it—
I can’t stand it.
Her or me. That’s the math.
It’s a deadly equation I don’t want to solve.
⬥ Maisie ⬥
I’m not ordinary. I stopped pretending long ago.
My name is Maisie Seo. IQ 145. Clinical genius.
Which sounds impressive until you realize what it actually means: I don’t fit anywhere people expect me to.
I see patterns everywhere. Outcomes before they happen. People like equations I’ve already solved.
It gets lonely in a world you’ve already figured out.
So I dull myself down. Smoke the edges off. Pretend, badly, to be the kind of normal that lets people stay.
Then he walked in.
I knew what he was immediately. Dangerous. Intentional. Wrong in all the right ways.
I should be afraid of him.
I keep waiting for that to kick in.
Instead, I’m fascinated.
Because for the first time in my life… I’ve found something I can’t solve.
He is my deadly equation.

Old wounds reopen, grief masquerades as rage, and love refuses to stay buried. Accardi
“I thought you said you were done chasing me?” Gen mocked.
“I am done chasing you.”
Before she could formulate a witty remark, Matteo threw her down. She landed hard on her back atop his dining room table. She tried to sit up when she noticed what he was doing. His hands were working on his belt. It came free of his pants with a violent yank. She collapsed back on her elbows, her mouth gaping open at the display. His face was a mask of sheer determination, his eyes were a dark gold swimming with heat and desire. His hands wrapped around her thighs and pulled her to the edge of the table. He glided his fingers up her thighs and hooked several around the inside of her panties. His knuckles brushed her dripping sex.
“You’re soaking wet, Genevieve. Tell me, was it me that made you this way or him?” his voice told her to be careful with her answer. His knuckles slid down through her folds and she threw her head back as she moaned. “Weakness?”
“You…” she breathed.
Genevieve loses a bet she can’t afford to pay. In a compromise, she agrees to convince any man her opponent chooses to go home with her that night.
