My Wife Drugged Me, So I Gave It to Her Lover
August · Completed · 12.2k Words
Introduction
I didn’t confront her. I was in the middle of a critical funding round and about to take over as CEO, and I couldn’t afford to act on emotion.
Then my PI told me the truth: the affair was only the beginning.
On her birthday night, she planned to drug me, send my secretary into my room, and frame me for cheating—maybe even saddle me with a fake child scandal.
If it worked, my CEO promotion would be dead, the funding would collapse, and my reputation would be finished.
She thought the setup was flawless.
Too bad she forgot one thing:
I’m not good at explaining myself. I’m good at letting people walk straight into the trap I built for them.
So that night, the man carried into the room wasn’t me.
It was her lover.
Chapter 1
My wife was sleeping with her assistant.

By the time I arrived at the café, I was ten minutes early.
The window seat was empty. I sat down and ordered an Americano.
I was waiting for Martin Gray. He wasn’t a lawyer, an accountant, or an investment banking advisor. He was a private investigator.
My name is Nolan Walker, one of the co-founders of Walker Tech. Right now, I oversee the company’s business and product divisions.
Our current CEO is the other co-founder. He plans to step away from management after this round of restructuring, so the board has already started discussing handing the CEO role to me. For the past few months, the company has been pushing hard on next quarter’s financing. One thing after another has demanded my attention—the board, investors, business lines. None of it could be neglected. Under normal circumstances, this was the last time I should have allowed myself to be distracted.
What distracted me wasn’t the company.
It was my marriage.
Lauren Beck is my wife. We’ve been married for three years. She works in administration at my company. She’s attractive, efficient, and knows how to maintain appearances in public. A lot of people think she’s well suited to stand beside me, because she knows exactly what to say in the right setting, when to smile, and when to stay quiet. At first, I thought so too. For a long time, our marriage looked fine—easier, in fact, than most.
And that was exactly why the recent changes stood out so sharply.
The first thing that felt off was her phone.
She used to leave it lying around on the dining table or the couch. If it rang, she’d just pick it up and reply. There was never any secrecy.
But starting three months ago, it practically never left her side. She brought it into the bathroom when she showered. The screen was always face down. Sometimes when I walked behind her, she would casually turn the screen off.
One night, I woke up late and heard her speaking softly on the balcony. I didn’t make a sound. I just stood behind the door and listened to a few sentences. It didn’t sound like she was talking to a friend. It sounded more like she was confirming a time and place. By the time I opened the door, she had already hung up. She turned and smiled at me, saying a friend had called drunk to vent.
The second thing that felt off was her schedule.
She started going out more often, always with respectable reasons: classes at a fitness club, gallery openings, fundraising events, dinner with acquaintances.
Her calendar looked more polished than before, more in line with the kind of social circle she liked to present.
But the details didn’t match.
I’m not the kind of man who goes through his partner’s phone, and I had no interest in tracking her location. But I noticed by chance that on several nights when she said she was “at the club,” her credit card statement showed charges from a hotel bar across town. She said she’d stayed late at a gallery opening, yet the parking receipt showed only forty minutes. She said she came straight home after dinner, but when she arrived, her hair was damp and her skin carried the scent of fresh soap.
It wasn’t a one-time inconsistency.
It kept happening.
I started paying attention to the details when she came home. She changed her clothes more often. Her perfume shifted from a cool woody scent to something sweeter, something you only noticed up close. Before coming inside, she would sit in the car for a few minutes, as if putting herself back together.
I didn’t confront her on the spot.
I didn’t need an elegant lie. I needed facts. Especially with the company approaching a leadership handoff and a critical financing stage, I couldn’t afford to blow things up on instinct, and I couldn’t let myself be pushed into a reactive position.
So I hired Martin.
The little bell over the café door rang, and the door opened.
Martin came in wearing a dark coat, carrying an unremarkable file envelope in one hand. He didn’t waste time. As soon as he sat down, he placed the envelope on the table without even ordering coffee.
“Mr. Walker,” he said, looking at me steadily, “I’ve got most of what you asked for.”
I didn’t bother with pleasantries. “Start with the conclusion.”
“Your wife is cheating on you,” Martin said bluntly. “The man’s name is Brandon Kane. He’s her assistant. They’ve been meeting regularly for days. The times and locations all line up.”
My fingertips paused for half a second, but my expression didn’t change. I don’t like letting emotion drag me around, and especially not at a moment like this. More than ever, I needed to stay clearheaded.
Brandon had joined the company six months ago as Lauren’s assistant, but I didn’t know when the two of them had started sleeping together.
“Proof,” I said.
Martin slid the first stack of photos toward me.
I looked down and saw Lauren and Brandon walking out of a restaurant side by side. Brandon’s hand rested against the small of her back—not openly obscene, but far beyond anything that could pass for a normal professional distance.
The next photo showed them in an underground garage, getting into the same car. Lauren was in the passenger seat. Brandon walked around to the driver’s side. In the next shot, they were kissing inside the car.
The one after that was a hotel corridor. Lauren was glancing around to make sure no one was watching while Brandon followed behind her. The timestamp in the corner clearly showed when they entered the room.
The next morning, there they were again, leaving together, both obviously wearing different clothes.
Martin spread out a printed timeline. “This is the record from the last week. I cross-checked it against the schedule she gave you. Most of it was cover. She said yoga—she was at a hotel. She said dinner with acquaintances—she was with Brandon. She said an event—she spent two hours in a private screening room. You were right to think things didn’t add up.”
I looked at the times and dates, and the last scrap of wishful thinking in me went flat. It wasn’t a misunderstanding, and I hadn’t imagined it. She had been lying to me, and she’d been doing it with a plan.
I closed the photos and looked up at Martin. “What else?”
He nodded and took out a second packet from the envelope. It wasn’t thick, but it hit harder.
“Your wife isn’t just cheating,” he said. “She’s setting you up. The key person in the setup is your secretary—Emily Perry.”
My eyes shifted.
Emily had been recommended by Lauren. Her education and résumé weren’t top-tier, and her interview performance had been average at best. By my usual standards, she never would have landed a position working that close to me. But Lauren had sounded sincere at the time. She said the girl was careful, eager to learn, and just needed a chance.
I hadn’t wanted to argue with my wife over a secretary position, so I kept Emily on.
Emily had joined the company three months ago.
Which meant this setup had started three months ago too.
I took a slow breath. “Go on.”
Martin laid several printed chat logs and call summaries in front of me. “While tracking your wife, I noticed she’d been in frequent contact with Emily. I got part of their chat history from another source. They’re planning to make their move on the night of your wife’s birthday party.”
He lowered his voice. “That night, your wife will personally hand you a drink. It’ll be drugged—not enough to kill you, but enough to make you groggy. Once you’re helped into a hotel suite, Emily will go in, turn off the lights, pretend to be your wife, and get close to you. The idea is to create a situation where the two of you sleep together. After that, if necessary, they’ll add a pregnancy claim or something similar, make it public, and accuse you of cheating and fathering a child out of wedlock. If that sticks, you’ll be in a very bad position right when the CEO handoff is happening, and the company will take a hit too.”
I opened the packet, and the first thing I saw was Lauren’s profile picture in the chat.
— “Turn off the lights. Don’t talk. He won’t know the difference.”
— “I’ll handle the room.”
— “You just need to act like me. He won’t know once the drug kicks in. Best case, you get pregnant.”
I read page after page, and the more I read, the clearer it became. This wasn’t something thrown together on impulse. They had broken it down step by step. They had even scripted how to make people believe it and how to bring it up in public.
I set the papers back on the table and rested my palm on top of them without speaking right away.
Martin looked at me. “What do you need me to do next?”
I raised my eyes. My voice stayed even. “Give me the originals. Photos, video, timestamps, backups. And for now, don’t spook them.”
Martin hesitated. “You’re not going to confront her?”
I looked out the window. Traffic was moving slowly. The streetlights hadn’t come on yet, but the sky had already darkened.
“If I confront her, she changes the script,” I said. “I’d rather let her perform the whole thing, then tell her in the final act that I built the stage.”
I stood up and walked out of the café.
Lauren had forgotten something.
What I do best isn’t explaining myself.
It’s making the other side move to my rhythm.
The moment I pushed open the door, the wind hit me full in the face, carrying a faint chill.
She thought she was setting me up.
But from this moment on, the game belonged to me.
