Introduction

“You’ll regret underestimating me, Marcus”

Sophia’s life was torn apart by lies and betrayal but when she meets her true mate, Ethan, a powerful Alpha with unwavering devotion, everything changes. Together, they explore a bond that burns hotter than any enemy’s rage, balancing passion, power, and trust.

But with threats lurking in every corner, can their love survive or will the past pull them apart before it even begins?

Chapter 1

Sophia's POV

Pack members, Marcus Foster of the Shadowmoon Pack, I declare my fated mate Lila will be joining our pack. I'm sure both Lila and Luna Sophia will be treated with respect, going forward."

A moment of silence hung in the air, then the room exploded into triumphant cheers.

“Congratulations, Alpha Marcus! Long live the Shadowmoon Pack!”

“Congratulations!”

The two figures close together in the middle of the hall, I gazed numb in disbelief as deafeningly loud, insincere congratulatory words filled my ears from every pack member.

my mind was blank at the moment and I didn't even know how to say no.

My mate Marcus had declared on our third wedding anniversary in front of all our pack members that he had found his fated mate.

But the only catch is that his fated mate was another woman.

To worsen the situation, instead of being shocked by this news that they accepted it, too, with hardly any hesitation.

Rage and humiliation coursed through me and it's hard to imagine that kira growled so loud in my head.

“Sophia… what the hell is going on?!” she barked, fury etched on her face, and ready to tear the throat out of the she-wolf before she was stopped quite literally.

" Kira, calm down," I said, my own anger struggling to the surface and trying to keep both myself and kira from shifting in the middle of the event.

As Luna of the Shadowmoon Pack, daughter of the Alpha of the Darkridge Pack, I didn’t have the luxury of breaking down in front of a crowd of hundreds of thousands of people, not on the night of the most important event of the years!

“Fuck controlling yourself Sophia, what’s wrong with you? I don’t give a shit what people think I wanna rip them apart!! Both of ‘em!

Those smug little shits, just look at them!” Kira ranted, spitting as she hopped from foot to foot refusing to calm down.

"How could he do this to us?! We’ve been married for three years and I have run his household smoothly while always fulfilling my responsibilities as Luna…”

All I could do was pretend to hold back. I was absolutely livid with this little bit of information.

"Don't just sit here like a wimp, Sophia! Tell him what the fuck he’s done, and go pluck his eyes out, I want you to kill him! Now! " Kira roared furiously in my mind.

My body rebelled against me as I forced my numb fingers to grasp the hem of my skirt, lifting it as antalclimauserand elegantly as possible before shuffling on over to Marcus's side.

I almost cried from the fury and betrayal I felt but I clamped down hard on my tongue and held it in.

The hundreds of pairs of eyes that fell upon me as I walked across always reminded me of what I owed them as their Luna, and it kept me stable as I walked with a mask of confidence.

As I continued my pace, still in possession of Kira, I still controlled Kira as I exited.

I’m willing to bet you that anger was radiating from my eyes glaring at them.

I crouched as I reached him, a tight smile on my face as I whispered in his ear, wishing that none of the pack would hear us.

"Marcus, what the hell do you think you're doing? Do You Really Want to Do This to Me on Our Wedding Anniversary? Couldn’t this Wait?”

“Sophia, I'm sorry. I love you, but Lila... she's my fated mate after all… I can't deny her…" Marcus said weakly as he looked up at me with guilt etched all over his face.

He didn't have the decency to set that woman free, instead, he held onto her with both hands as though he was holding onto life.

There was no way out for that woman, and he intended to sign up and grab her with all his might.

That was always going to be the biggest hurdle between us.

Marcus and I fell in love when we were only 16 years old and we swore to each other that we would be together for our entire lives.

We had desperately prayed that the Moon Goddess would make us each other’s fated mates on our 18th birthday when we shifted into wolves, but, to our great disappointment, she didn’t.

Marcus was already a strong and passionate believer even then: "Sophia, I love you.

And even if we're not mates, no one else but you could get my pack to accept a new Alpha Luna! There will never be anyone else," I swear!"

The man who had settled on me so decisively and promised me the world was now standing before me, holding another girl close to his heart.

And though I was seething, the images of the last few years kept flashing through my mind as I trembled before them, anger barely contained and tears unshed blurring my vision.

I clutched at my skirt as I feverishly tried to busy myself with other things to pull my mind away from the pain of my heart shattering and refusing to give into grief and let these traitorous tears fall from my eyes.

I would not give them that.

"Sophia, my love, you know what finding a fated mate means for an Alpha. Lila is just a poor girl whose pack recently suffered a catastrophe, I can't leave her alone. If I reject her, she will have nowhere else to go." Marcus pleaded unrepentantly.

He could see that I hadn't spoken for a long time but he insisted on reaching for me, and holding onto my hand like he usually did, all the while looking unashamedly at Lila with pity and affection in his eyes.

"Of course I know what being a fated mate means! But I'll warn you now Marcus, you had better remember who your Luna is!" I hissed furiously in a low tone, so that only the three of us would be able to hear it, as I shook off his hand and stared boldly into Marcus's eyes.

“ Sophia, my love, I can't help it, you know how the bond is, all those times we wished it was real between us so that we would feel that irresistible pull… ever since the first time I saw Lila, my wolf has been going crazy, he's only at peace when she's at his side. You and I both know that having a real Mate would only make me a more powerful Alpha. Sophia, please forgive me, I just can't send her away…" Marcus pleaded as he at long last released the girl in his arms and attempted to hug me as he murmured in my ear, "Lila is a good girl; she can assist you with the pack business."

I looked at Lila, who had big eyes and was small in size.

She was looking at me shyly as she clung on tightly to Marcus's shirt while looking exactly what a pitiful girl Marcus wanted me to believe she was.

I snorted coldly at them both and Lila seemed taken aback by it before quickly grasping a glass of red wine from the side table and gingerly handing it over to me.

"Respected Luna, please allow me to stay here. I don't want to ruin your banquet, I promise! Marcus has saved me out of the kindness of his heart and it really wasn't my intention to cause such a problem between you both!" Lila's pretty face was full of anxiety as her big watery eyes looked at me pleadingly.

"Do you want to know what I think?" I said as I looked down on her condescendingly.

Lila was taken aback and stood there holding the wine glass uncertainly, without knowing what to do next. Marcus stepped forward protectively shielding her behind him before speaking.

“Sophia you need to calm down.”

“You need to calm down?” I hissed irritably, “You’re not happy with the mate you’ve picked and now that you have another woman in our home? Fated or not Marcus, you made a promise…”

My argument with Marcus was clearly starting to cause Lila to panic as the girl suddenly dropped to her knees in front of me, tears welling up as she held up her glass of red wine and begged me, ”Please I just want to stay out of the way as long as I have somewhere to live, Luna! I can do the laundry, cook for you, take care of you and help with your routine! Just let me stay, I’m not asking for much!”

“Look at this poor girl is so pitiful.” Somewhere from the gathered pack members came a choked voice, then another.

“Alpha Marcus’s fated mate, at least she has a reason to be here”

“Luna Sophia really shouldn’t be that hard on her …”

There were some of the murmurs floating into my ears that were like knives straight jabbing into my heart. I turned to glance at Marcus but found that he was gazing at Lila with a softness and adoration in his eyes.

I closed my eyes and all I could feel was confusion. This love story that had been going strong for six years since high school now seemed like a big joke.

"Fuck these motherfuckers!" Kira growled slowly as she fought for control, wanting desperately to rush out and tear apart the couple in front of us.

But, I couldn't let her do that.

It’s not time to be angry yet. For now, I’m still the Luna of this Pack.” I replied peacefully, compelling her to calm down.

“ I do not agree with you at all” Kira replied sourly, retreating to the back of my mind.

“ You should be taking this up now, in full public view!”

“After the banquet, we’ll talk things out .” I’m not doing this in front of an audience, Kira.”

I took a deep breath, then reached for Lila’s wine glass and drank it all at once. Then I reached out and grabbed her by the arm, pulling her up and making her stand. I pushed her towards Marcus with a contemptuous smile.

“ Marcus, my gratitude and love for you cease here. You have made your choice, as now I shall make mine. After the banquet is over, we’ll settle things properly.” I said coldly.

Marcus opened his mouth like he wanted to say something but I didn't want to listen anymore. Instead I sat down on the seat that traditionally belonged to the Luna while waiting dutifully for Kira to come back after she had caught her breath.

" Kira, It's time,” I urged as I neared the edge of the woods. The forest was our go-to place to unwind when we were under too much pressure, and we’d whiled away a great many hours sprinting and wandering among the dim walls created by the towering pines.

But something strange was happening.

It didn't matter how many times I called her, she didn't appear.

I heard no response from her at all for the first time since we had found each other at 18 years old.

I felt distinctly unsettled about this and was just about to use the pack's mind link to ask the Pack's private doctor what was going on when suddenly, my heart seemed to burst, the severe pain radiating outwards and along my limbs, my body contorting in agony before I fell to the ground.

What the hell was happening to me?

"Was the wine to your pleasure, dear Luna?" A derisive voice rang from a place somewhere above me.

I writhed on the ground, my body resisting

my efforts to move as I frantically tried to raise my head, but the only thing I could see was a single figure, a small woman.

"Damn, Lila!”
