Introduction

My name is Megan, and I am the Queen of the Star Fae.
Sixteen years ago, I left my Mate — Orlando, Alpha of the Darkmoon Pack — and the daughter we had just brought into the world, to hold back an invasion of Abyssal demons.
Sixteen years of war in the Void — and at last, the Abyss was sealed.
I came home crowned in glory, my mastery over the Source of Starlight absolute. I expected my husband's arms and my daughter's smile waiting for me.
I never imagined that setting foot on Darkmoon land again would mean no flowers, no cheering — only the sound of my own child screaming for help from inside a filthy dungeon.

Chapter 1

The Darkmoon Pack's territory lay beneath a sky that never seemed to see the sun.

Tonight was my daughter's sixteenth birthday — the night of her First Shift.

I walked the mud-slick streets, wrapped in a cloak that hid my presence, the air thick with blood and rot. I'd crossed realms to get here, my heart full of hope, ready to surprise her.

My space ring held the finest relics of the Star Realm, a gown woven from ten thousand years of starlight, and everything a mother's guilt and love could carry.

Then, passing the black market's underground fighting pits, a roar of bloodlust hit me — and beneath it, a thin, broken cry that went straight through my soul.

I had no interest in the bloodsport of these lesser creatures. But in that instant, my heart seized.

The resonance of star-blood.

Faint. But unmistakably mine.

I stopped walking. My gaze cut through the pit's stone walls, straight down into the dark below.

"Looking to place a bet, lady? Tonight's main event — a feral wolf tearing apart a blood slave," a red-eyed guard leered, blocking the entrance.

I didn't look at him. My eyes stayed on the ground.

The next second, the massive door shattered to dust.

I didn't bother with the stairs. Blue starfire tore through the floor beneath me, and I plunged into the lowest level like a meteor.

When the dust cleared, the whole place went silent. Every spectator, every gambler, stared at the woman who had just torn their world apart.

I didn't see any of them. My eyes were locked on the small, huddled shape in the center of the iron cage.

A girl — or barely the remains of one. Her broken body looked as though it might fall apart at any moment.

She was chained to the filth-soaked ground like a dog. The tendons in her wrists and ankles had been severed, wounds gaping open, oozing dark blood.

Nine thick silver spikes had been driven along the length of her spine — the pack's method for torturing outcasts, suppressing a victim's powers so they could be bled dry while still alive.

What broke something in me was her back.

Where wings of starlight should have unfurled, someone had burned the mark of a "Rogue" into her flesh instead — peeled back, blackened with infection.

Her mouth hung open, empty. Her tongue had been torn out, her vocal cords destroyed. All she could manage was a broken, wheezing sound, like air through a punctured bellows.

"Who let this crazy woman in! Ruining our fun!" the pit's owner bellowed, claws bared and gleaming.

I ignored him.

I walked to the cage, step by step, and rested my fingers against the rusted bars.

A hiss, and the steel dissolved into liquid metal under my starfire.

I knelt before the girl and reached out, my hand shaking.

Years as a blood source had left her light as kindling. She flinched into the shadows, certain I was here to hurt her too.

Fighting back the pain ripping through my soul, I pressed a drop of golden starlight to her forehead.

A low hum rippled through the air. Golden light flared to life. My blood sigil. A mark only I could create.

Our eyes met in the dark, both the same shade of pale water-blue. Blood resonance doesn't lie.

This prisoner was the daughter Orlando and I had sworn to protect the moment she was born.

"Hhh... hhh..." A flicker of confusion crossed her hollow eyes, then something like recognition, as though the warmth of our blood had finally found its way to her. She went still.

"Who did this to you?" I whispered, already knowing the answer might never come. My voice stayed quiet — too quiet, even to my own ears. Beneath that calm was a fury that could burn through worlds.

At that moment, a crystal projection flared to life above the pit, flooding the filthy chamber with light.

The image showed the Packhouse — bright, lavish, alive with celebration.

My Mate. Orlando, Alpha of the Darkmoon Pack, stood in a tailored suit, beaming with pride as he lowered a crown set with star-diamonds onto another girl's head. Beautiful. Pampered. Glowing with health, basking in the crowd's admiration.

"To my beloved daughter, Stella, future heir of the Darkmoon Pack, on her sixteenth birthday. A toast!"

Orlando's voice, warm with pride, carried through the enchanted speakers, echoing crystal clear through the blood-soaked pit.

The pit owner, too stupid to know when to shut up, sauntered over swinging a barbed whip, sneering as he pointed at the screen.

"Hear that, crazy woman? That's the Alpha himself. This slave's nothing but a drained blood bag — useless now her blood's run dry.

"Then she had the nerve to disrupt Miss Stella's awakening blessing. Orders came straight from him: feed her to the wolves. A little entertainment for tonight."

Alpha Orlando. Future heir Stella.

Good. Wonderful.

The man I'd bled for, sworn myself to — he hadn't just failed our daughter. He'd taken some stranger's child and crowned her in my daughter's place, letting her bask in everything that should have belonged to my own blood.

"Die."

I didn't let him finish his sentence.

Starlight became a shapeless storm. Every soul in that pit never got the chance to scream.

Bone shattered in a single wet crack, and their bodies burst into clouds of blood, one after another.

The chamber turned red. Only my daughter and I stood untouched.

I poured the purest starlight I had into her, holding her failing heart together by will alone.

Then I gripped each of the nine silver spikes buried in her spine. The silver melted to slag in my grip as I dragged them free.

Each one felt like tearing a piece of my own soul out with it.

"Don't be afraid. Mom's here now." I gathered her into my arms and wrapped her cold, broken body in the gown woven from ten thousand years of starlight.

If Orlando — the Alpha too blind to see his own blood — couldn't protect his daughter.

If the Darkmoon Pack thought they could grind my bloodline into the mud and walk away clean.

Then I would burn this territory down to pay the debt.

I rose into the air, my daughter unconscious in my arms.

The ceiling of the pit tore apart above me like wet paper. Wind howled around us as I hovered over a black market screaming in terror below.

In the distance, the Packhouse blazed with light, drowning in luxury and lies.

"Thank you, Father, for everything you've given me. And thank you, Mother, wherever you are, for watching over me..."

The enchanted broadcast carried the impostor's sweet, simpering voice on the wind. It cut straight through me.

Mother?

I laughed, low and cold, starfire igniting behind my eyes, promising a death that would scorch the realm.

You dressed up my daughter's suffering as filth and threw it away at your grand celebration.

Then let me return the favor. Let me give this party a gift it will never forget.
