Introduction
“I don't like butterflies, ” I said quietly.
Her brows furrowed slightly. “Why?”
“A butterfly flies away eventually.” My grip around her waist tightened. "Is that your plan?"
Her eyes returned to mine. “And if it is?”
“Wrong answer. You can't fly away.”
I lowered my second hand from her neck to her waist slowly. The silk bunched beneath my fingers. Gods. She felt soft everywhere, making my control thin dangerously.
“We don’t need a ceremony,” I murmured against her skin.
“Silas…” that was her cry for help, for reasoning. But it was too late. All I heard was her begging me to mark her.
My wolf surged immediately. I kissed the side of her neck again, slower this time, letting my mouth linger against her pulse. I could feel how fast her heart was beating now. The need to claim her was already unbearable. I tightened my arms around her as the mark settled beneath her skin. My breathing turned rough instantly from the force of it. The feeling was almost overwhelming. Her knees nearly buckled beneath her afterward. I caught her immediately. Her fingers clutched my shirt tightly while she tried to steady herself. Then slowly, she lifted trembling fingers toward her neck.
“What...?” she whispered.
I felt no regret for claiming her. She would be mine. Forever.
Fate may have chosen Silas for Alexa but somewhere in the shadows, someone is watching. Someone who believes Alexa stole the life that should have been hers. And she'll do whatever it takes to take it back. Even if it means destroying Alexa in the process.
And when buried secrets begin to surface, Alexa will be forced to answer one impossible question: What is more dangerous than being claimed by an Alpha?
Chapter 1
Alexa's Pov
I woke up feeling like I'd just been beaten by ten people all at once. I had a headache the size of the moon. My head throbbed terribly and my lower back felt so sore. And don't get me started with the pounding ache throbbing just behind my eyes. It's hell. Did I fight in a war last night?
A wince escaped me as I turned on my side but it soon subsided when something brushed my nostrils. It was the bedsheets. It was soft and made of pure silk. I wanted to wrap myself around it and snuggle in it for as long as I lived. It was so nice. Even the air smelled like leather and cedarwood, my favourite scent.
But wait a minute… had my bed always been this big and soft?
I opened my eyes and looked around the room. That's weird. My room looks kinda different. There were no photographs of my family and friends on the walls and did my bed just move by itself? Why was it in the center of the room?
My eyes latched onto the ceiling and mortification washed over me in a tidal wave. This isn't my room.
My brain screamed and panic rose like a wave in my chest. I bolted upright and the sudden movement made a sharp gasp leave my throat.
I pushed the soft sheets away from my body and threw my legs out. Only when I did, my jaws dropped. I was dressed in nothing but an oversized T-shirt that didn't belong to me.
What the hell happened to me last night? Where the hell am I?
A shiver rippled through me and I pressed a hand to my chest. Had I been kidnapped?
I opened my mouth to scream for help but those words had barely left my lips because the door creaked open.
Our eyes locked and my jaws dropped to the floor. There is no way in hell he was here.
Standing by the door wrapped in a velvety black robe that clung loosely to his muscular frame was the most dangerous man in the entire country. His short dark hair was tousled and damp from the shower. I knew that because a few droplets were trailing down his face and collarbone.
This has got to be a dream, right? Because what is he doing here? What am I even doing here?
I stared at him in shock, wondering what the hell happened and suddenly, it all came back to me.
My memories from last night slammed into me without warning in foggy flashes.
My return from work. Walking into my boyfriend cheating on me. The club I went to with Remmy. Me, dancing and drinking. And then a man with stormy-grey eyes, jaw sharp enough to cut glass, and his scent…leather and woodsy scent.
That man was him!
Shit!
Now, I’d have to move to the North Pole, build myself an ice cave and learn to speak penguin because I could never show my face in New York or any other city where I could run into him ever again.
“Good morning…” My voice came out in a high pitch. I only sound like that when I'm extremely nervous.
He tilted his head and said nothing. Of course, he wouldn't respond.
I decided to try another approach. I cleared my throat and asked.
“So… uh… you mind telling me where the exit is?” I whispered.
He didn't answer my question. Instead, he walked towards me, his strong presence filling the room that made my stomach churn.
I took a step back. “I… where am I?”
“My penthouse.” He replied now and I nearly swooned. His voice was so deep and calm. I was nervous but for some reasons beyond me, I felt safe. Weird.
He nodded towards the nightstand. “Since you're fully awake, you can go ahead and sign the paper behind you.”
I blinked at him like he just spoke French. “Excuse me?”
“The paper.” he nodded behind me.
Still confused, I followed his gaze to the bedside table where the paper was, perfectly creased with a pen waiting beside it like an obedient servant.
Feeling skeptical, I reached for it. My eyes scanned the bold words at the top and my eyes widened in shock. MARRIAGE CONTRACT.
I froze. “What the fuck is this?”
“Your payment for my saving you and yes, it's exactly what it looks like.” he said, standing up and walking towards a chair where his clothes were folded.
“You've gotta be kidding me, right?”
“Do I look like I am?”
I swallowed. He clearly wasn't.
He pulled on a pair of tailored black trousers and began buttoning up a black dress shirt, unfazed that I was watching, unfazed like he asking me, a total stranger, to marry him was completely normal.
I scowled and threw the paper to the floor. “There is no way I'm getting married to you. This is a crime against the law!”
He met my gaze, his eyes turning feral and by feral, I meant like a predator — golden.
“Pick it up. Now.” He ordered calmly.
I scoffed. “Excuse me? My father doesn't even speak to me in that tone. Who the hell do you think you are ordering me around?!”
“Pick it up.”
“Really? You want me to pick it up?” I crossed my arms and glared at him. “How about this? Eat shit.”
He let out a dry chuckle that turned into a full-blown laugh. Instead of feeling devastated and scared, all I could do was stare at his lips like a creep. He was downright breathtaking and that's a fact but Even though his smile was a gift to all of mankind, he was a kidnapper and a dangerous man. At least, that's what the news says about him.
His laughter subsided and he cupped my jaw. “Alexa, If I kidnapped you, you'd be in chains and not silk sheets.”
Wait a minute. How could he tell what I was thinking? And how did he even know my name?
“You have to let me go. I don't know what I'm doing here or how I got here but this was all a mistake.” I said almost shakily.
I expected him to let me go but he looked me dead in the eyes and said,
“Sign the papers, Alexa. You agreed to this yourself.”
“I didn't agree to this. Who even agrees to marry a stranger? Much less the city's most dangerous man.” I yelled. “Just let me go and you'll never see me near you ever again.”
“I'm afraid we'll be seeing each other for a long time.” His lips curled into a grin. “You're going to be my wife, Alexa.”
“No,” I shook my head. “I don't remember agreeing to marry you!”
I was sure he would yell at me but to my shock, his hand trailed up my spine until it rested on the back of my neck, leaving a rush of tingles in their wake. I wanted to jump out of my skin and at the same time, I wanted him to hold me.
“You really don't remember what happened last night?” his voice dropped an octave as he leaned in.
I swallowed hard as his face neared mine. “No. I don't remember agreeing to marry you.”
“Then let me help you remember.”
For a moment, I thought he'd hit me on the head but he didn't. Instead he cupped my face and kissed me.

He didn't finish. He didn't need to.
I didn't tell him to stop.
Instead, my fingers curled into his shirt, clutching the fabric as though it was my only anchor. Something in him snapped—something he had been holding back for too long. His mouth found mine in a kiss that wasn't tender, but hungry, desperate.
I gasped into him, his hand sliding up to cup my jaw, holding me as if afraid I might vanish.
"You drive me insane," he breathed against my mouth, his lips trailing to my throat. "I can't lose you, Ella. Not you."
My head fell back, a soft sound escaping me as his fingers memorized my waist. My anger melted beneath his desperation.
"James..." I whispered, more plea than protest.
His hand caught mine, fingers threading together tightly. "I'll bring him back. I swear it. Just... don't turn away from me. Please."
The word please—low, ragged, almost broken—undid me more than anything else could have.

The CEO's Unspoken Love
Before I could answer, he moved closer, suddenly looming over me, his face inches from mine. I felt my breath caught, my lips parting in surprise.
"Then this is the price for speaking ill of me to others," he murmured, nipping my lower lip before claiming my mouth in a real kiss. It began as punishment but quickly transformed into something else entirely as I responded, my initial rigidity melting into compliance, then active participation.
My breathing accelerated, small sounds escaping my throat as he explored my body. His touches were both punishment and pleasure, drawing shudders from me that I thought he felt reverberating through his own body.

Then, under a full moon, I touched a bleeding stranger—and my wolf returned with a violence that made me whole. Who was he? Why could he wake what I'd thought dead?
One thing I know: now is the time.
