The Alpha I Wasn't Supposed To Want, But Can't Stop Craving
Miracle U · Ongoing · 161.2k Words
Introduction
The most absolute of all of them is the bond. No mating between human and wolf. Ever. The punishment is death for both parties. She helped write the updated clause herself. So when the Alpha of the oldest pack on earth looks at her across a peace summit and every wolf in the room goes completely still — she feels it the same moment he does and understands immediately exactly how much trouble she is in.
Caelen doesn't approach her. Doesn't speak to her. But none of them can deny the buds sprouting and growing between the two of them.
What they don't know yet is that the bond didn't activate by accident. Three generations back her bloodline stopped being purely human. Her great grandmother was a wolf who chose humanity and had the shift surgically severed, which meant she wasn't exactly who she thought she was.
No matter how much they tried to keep the secret, the truth always had a way of resurfacing and when this dangerous truth threatened to take away everything they had, Allene had no other choice but to fight to save her heart.
And when she chose to burn everything down, she waited to see if Caelen would rise from the ash with her.
Chapter 1
~ ALLENE'S POV ~
“Retreat! Retreat!!!” I heard my father's voice bellow across the battlefield. Bodies dropped all around me as the wolves tore into my soldiers without mercy.
“Stand your ground!” I shouted countering his order.
I could see the confusion rippling among the soldiers. Whether to retreat or to keep fighting.
“Shield wall!!” I yelled.
Some of the soldiers ran forward mounting a wall with their shields. The heat of the battle raged endlessly.
“Advance!” I commanded again.
They began marching towards the enemy. But they were far stronger. More men dropped dead and I quickly realized that we were waging a war we couldn't win. We were fighting a losing war.
“Retreat!” I yelled.
The soldiers began marching backwards without caution. Soon, we were within our walls and they shut the gates immediately to keep the wolves from storming in.
I stood on the watchtower and stared down at them as they began retreating into the forest back to where they came from.
I angrily took off my vests. Blood stained my hands. My fingers trembled and I struggled to reload the bullets into my gun.
“We cannot give up now!” My father said.
I looked at him with a blank expression trying to keep the helplessness out of my face. Alistair Voss. For him, there can be no victory without sacrifice but I was tired of seeing my people die.
We were mere humans and we are no match for the wolves.
“Look around you, father. We barely have fifty men left. The wolves keep getting stronger and coming at us. We wound them and they go back to their forests to heal and return but our people die without any back up. We cannot keep waging this war. It will be the death of us all.”
My father scoffed.
“You think any of your councillors are going to listen to this bullshit?! You better make plans on how to hire mercenaries who will help us fight and win this war. We cannot stop fighting simply because you are scared!” He mocked.
I glared at him, letting him see the anger I was harboring within me.
“You think I'm scared?” I asked in horror.
“Look around you father, we are facing annihilation! And I'm simply trying to preserve what's left of our legacy! The wolves are going to wipe us out. And I'm trying to stop that from happening.” I declared.
“These men would never see it that way. Some of them have lost everything, their families, their sons and daughters. Look at Jonah. His entire family was wiped out yesterday in that fire. The only thing he's thinking of right now is to get his revenge. Do you think he's going to agree with your plans to back down?”
I sighed in exasperation.
“That is exactly what I'm trying to stop. I'm trying to save those who are not already dead.” I replied calmly.
Footsteps thundered towards us halting our disagreement. I looked up to see it was the rest of the councilmen. They were still holding onto their guns ready to start another fight.
“We are standing around doing nothing when we should be mobilizing to go out there and continue.” Mildred barked.
My father and I shared a look. His face was filled with the conviction that none of the councilmen will stand with me.
I looked around at the weary faces of my soldiers and sighed.
“Let's go to the cabinet office. This is not a good place for this discussion.”
I didn't give them the chance to protest and I just began marching towards the main building. I entered the cabinet office and sat down.
The council members filed in one after the other and took their seats.
“If we keep fighting, we are all going to die.” I addressed them.
No sooner than the words left my mouth, Jonah stood up angrily and banged his fists against the table.
“Then so be it. We will die protecting what we love. I'm not afraid of death!” He yelled.
I could see the pain in his eyes.
“You don't understand. Our resources are depleted, our ranks are failing and our men are not even up to hundred. We cannot go against the wolves in our current condition. That's suicide.” I said hoping they would see reasons with me.
Mildred was the only other woman on the council and her opinion always tilted to mine but the look on her face currently said she disagreed.
“I already told you to hire mercenaries who will help us win the war.” My father cut in.
I looked at the faces of everyone present.
“Is that what you all want? To hire more men who will all die still? We are no match for the wolves. We should be looking for a way to end this fight.”
Edward barked out a sad laugh.
“I admire your strength, Allene. But no matter what we do, the wolves are determined to kill every single one of us. Once they figure out a way to breach our walls, then it will all be over. And I'll rather die while fighting than be slaughtered like a common chicken.” He said.
Mildred nodded in agreement.
“I'd rather die knowing I did everything in my power to protect my children.” She replied, strengthening Edward's claims.
I sighed heavily knowing that this decision would bring doom to every single one of us.
“I'll make the plans for the men. For now, I urge everyone to rest and get ready. The wolves won't stay quiet for long and they'll return.”
Just on cue, the door burst open and Adeline rushed in covered in blood. She was my second and seeing her here meant there was trouble.
“The wolves…” she choked and blood spluttered from her mouth.
I noticed she had an envelope clutched tightly in her hand.
“There’s no time to mobilize any more men. They’ve returned.” She said and collapsed to the ground.

His face was a mask of sheer determination, his eyes were a dark gold swimming with heat and desire. His hands wrapped around her thighs and pulled her to the edge of the table.
