The Bakery at the Edge of the Fae Wood
Pst Felix A.O Emmanuel · Ongoing · 33.8k Words
Introduction
She's about to lose both.
The ovens won't light. The building is crumbling. Wren has three months to make it work or lose the last piece of her family. And then she finds Ash—a scarred, silent fae exile living in her toolshed, refusing to leave.
He's dangerous. He's distant. He refuses to explain why he fixes things only to disappear. But when Wren discovers the ovens respond to fae magic, she realizes Ash is the only one who can help her save the bakery. Desperate, she makes him a deal: teach her to bake with magic, and she won't ask questions about why he's been hiding in her life.
Except questions are impossible to avoid when you're falling in love.
As Wren learns the secrets of enchanted bread and Ash begins to trust again, the bakery becomes a refuge for a found family of aunties, regulars, and one mysterious fox. But Ash's exile has an expiration date—and the Fae Court is coming to collect their debt.
Now Wren must choose: let Ash go back to the world he came from, or fight a magic she's only just learning to wield for the grumpy fae exile who taught her that home isn't a place—it's warm bread and someone who stays.
Grumpy×Sunshine romance, cozy fantasy, found family, fae magic, and slow-burn romance that makes your heart ache.
Chapter 1
The lawyer's office smelled like old paper and regret.
"Your grandmother left everything to you, Ms. Wren."
Mr. Hartley's voice was gentle. Too gentle. The kind reserved for people who've just lost what can't be recovered.
I locked onto the manila envelope in his hands.
Inside was my entire life.
"But there are conditions," he continued, sliding it across his mahogany desk.
Conditions.
My fingers seized it. Grandma's handwriting stared back—that same loopy cursive filling recipe cards for twenty-three years. I breathed through my nose.
"The bakery," Mr. Hartley said. "And the house attached to it."
I hunted through the words.
The Bakery at the Edge of Thornwood. To my granddaughter, Wren Clarke, with the following conditions...
Two conditions.
"Condition one: Keep the bakery open and operational for at least one year."
"Yes. If you close it, the property reverts to the state."
My stomach collapsed.
The bakery.
The one Grandma had run for forty years. The one I'd abandoned when I was twenty.
"Condition two?" I whispered.
"Never enter the Fae Wood after dark. Under any circumstances. Your grandmother was very insistent."
I blinked.
"The Fae Wood. You mean like—"
"I don't ask questions about your grandmother's beliefs, Ms. Clarke." He slid another document across. "She left the bakery in considerable debt. Mortgage six months behind. Significant repairs needed."
The words hit like shrapnel.
I looked at the will. But Grandma's words were unforgiving: This bakery is your future, if you're brave enough to claim it. But beware what stirs at the edge of the wood after sunset.
"When did she write this?"
"Three weeks ago. Before the stroke."
Three weeks.
She'd known. And she'd left me this impossible inheritance.
---
The bakery looked like a crypt.
That was my first thought as I pulled up two days later, my ancient Honda—bought used off a mechanic near Eight Mile Road, that Detroit guy who fixed engines like they were sacred—barely surviving the three-hour drive north from Corktown.
I killed the engine and just sat.
The building was older than me, painted faded cream peeling in jagged strips. The sign above—THE BAKERY—hung at a sickening angle, one metal letter swinging.
The apartment above sat dark.
Silent.
She'd spent every summer here. Remembered the smell of fresh bread. Grandma teaching her how to fold butter into croissant dough.
"This is love, sweet girl. You're putting love into every fold."
And then Wren had chosen differently.
Fled to the city. Got a corporate bakery job. Convinced herself ambition mattered more than memory.
Now Grandma was gone, and Wren had one year to save it or lose everything.
She grabbed the key and hauled herself out of the car.
The air bit different here—like earth and damp things and something metallic. Charged. The town was quiet, tucked into a valley where the forest pressed close.
The key jammed in the lock.
She wrenched it, furious, and it yielded with a click like bone breaking. The door swung open.
Dust hung in slanting light like suspended time. The counter was bare. The shelves were gutted. The air was dead—thick and suffocating.
Wren's eyes burned.
She pushed deeper, past the counter, toward the kitchen. The ovens—those beautiful, ancient brick ovens that Grandma had restored—sat cold and dark.
Wren pressed her palm against the brick.
Ice.
She wheeled in a slow circle, mapping devastation.
Cracked tiles like a spiderweb. Peeling paint like diseased skin. A leak in the ceiling that had bloomed into a brown stain spreading like a tumor.
This was impossible.
A sound split her thoughts.
Screech.
Metal shrieking against metal.
Coming from outside. Behind the shop.
Wren's hand flew to her phone. She crossed to the back door.
Another screech.
Then—a curse.
Male. Vicious.
Wren wrenched the door open.
What she witnessed shattered everything.
A man was crouched beside the garden shed, leveraging a crowbar against the lock. He was tall—even hunched, his shoulders dominated the space. Dark hair fell across his face. She could see the scars mapping his knuckles. White-pale. Deliberate.
He wore a black coat despite the warm afternoon.
He locked rigid as Wren emerged.
Slowly—glacially—he rotated to face her.
And Wren's blood froze.
His eyes were wrong.
Not wrong in any human way.
They were silver-grey, shot through with something that looked like starlight trapped in ice, and they pinned her with an intensity that hollowed her out.
"You're not supposed to be here," he rasped.
His voice was gravel.
Something that had learned to speak only in shadows.
"This is my property," Wren gasped. "Who the hell are you?"
A smile slashed across his scarred face.
It bared teeth.
"Your grandmother never told you about me?" He unfurled to his full height—six-foot-three, maybe taller. "Interesting."
"Stay back," Wren warned.
"No." He crossed the distance in two strides. "Because if you scream, if you call anyone, I vanish. And this bakery dies. And I don't think your grandmother would want that."
"How do you know about—"
"Because I've been keeping it alive," he interrupted. Those impossible eyes never blinked. "Keeping the magic alive while your grandmother waited for you to come home."
Wren's mouth went dry.
"Magic," she repeated.
His smile widened.
"Welcome to Thornwood, little baker. Your life just—"
He stopped.
His entire body locked.
He rotated toward the forest, that silver gaze piercing through the deepening shadow like a blade through silk.
"No," he breathed.
Behind him, at the forest's edge, the shadows moved.
And from somewhere deep in the wood, Wren heard a sound that made every instinct in her body scream:
A hunting horn.
Low.
Ancient.
Impossibly beautiful.
Wrong.
The man grabbed her wrist—his grip hot and electric—and dragged her back toward the bakery.
"Run," he commanded.
And the horn sounded again—closer—and Wren understood:
Whatever was hunting him had found them both.

After One Night with the Alpha
I thought I was waiting for love. Instead, I got fucked by a beast.
My world was supposed to bloom at the Moonshade Bay Full Moon Festival—champagne buzzing in my veins, a hotel room booked for Jason and me to finally cross that line after two years. I’d slipped into lacy lingerie, left the door unlocked, and lay on the bed, heart pounding with nervous excitement.
But the man who climbed into my bed wasn’t Jason.
In the pitch-black room, drowned in a heady, spicy scent that made my head spin, I felt hands—urgent, scorching—searing my skin. His thick, pulsing cock pressed against my dripping cunt, and before I could gasp, he thrust hard, tearing through my innocence with ruthless force. Pain burned, my walls clenching as I clawed at his iron shoulders, stifling sobs. Wet, slick sounds echoed with every brutal stroke, his body unrelenting until he shuddered, spilling hot and deep inside me.
"That was amazing, Jason," I managed to say.
"Who the fuck is Jason?"
My blood turned to ice. Light slashed across his face—Brad Rayne, Alpha of Moonshade Pack, a werewolf, not my boyfriend. Horror choked me as I realized what I’d done.
I ran away for my life!
But weeks later, I woke up pregnant with his heir!
They say my heterochromatic eyes mark me as a rare true mate. But I’m no wolf. I’m just Elle, a nobody from the human district, now trapped in Brad's world.
Brad’s cold gaze pins me: “You carry my blood. You’re mine.”
There is no other choice for me but to chose this cage. My body also betrays me, craving the beast who ruined me.

Lethal Web of Mafia's Revenge (Sequal to "Innocent in Mafia's Web)
He was a beast inhabiting this mansion, inflicting inhuman torture on my poor soul. He had created a living hell for me, this pitiful girl, within his castle.
On this cold winter night, he threw my wounded body into the icy pool, arrogantly enjoying it all, drinking and smoking expensive cigars. A satisfied, cold smile played on his lips as he reveled in my pain. His face was filled with the darkness of sin.
“How...more...am I…still…standing?” I stammered, my lips trembling.
Zain paused, thinking. Then, turning away from her, he replied:
“Until you die!”
With that, he left. As he wished. At that moment, my wish came true; I died.
But not in a frozen pool; I was struck in the head by a bullet from afar, blood splattering everywhere—that was far more gruesome.
My consciousness began to fade, but suddenly, I opened my eyes again and found myself mopping the floor in an ordinary restaurant.
I was startled: What happened? I was reborn? This is unbelievable!
