Introduction

In the kingdom of Kingdom of Valedria, the greatest tragedy was the disappearance of a princess.
Eighteen years ago, the infant daughter of King Lucien Auremont and Queen Seraphina Auremont vanished during a bloody night of fire and betrayal. The kingdom mourned her death.
But the lost princess never died.
Raised under the name Eva Laurent by a humble bakery family near the royal capital, Eva grows up far from silk gowns and jeweled crowns, unaware that royal blood flows through her veins.
Until fate drags her into the palace she was born in.
Forced to work as a servant beneath glittering chandeliers and watchful nobles, Eva becomes entangled in dangerous royal secrets—and in the path of the one man she was never supposed to meet.
Prince Cassian Valmont.
The cold and devastatingly handsome prince of Kingdom of Asterra arrives in Valedria for one purpose:
To marry the kingdom’s beloved royal daughter, Lady Rosalie Valeir, and unite two powerful kingdoms.
But before Cassian ever saw the palace…
he met a mysterious girl in the forest.
Eva.
Now trapped inside the palace walls, Eva must hide her growing feelings for a prince destined to marry another woman, while whispers of a forgotten prophecy begin surfacing through the kingdom.
Because someone inside the palace knows exactly who she is.
And he has been waiting for her return.
Behind sacred prayers and holy robes, Lord Darius Valthor watches from the shadows—guarding ancient secrets stained with blood, obsession, and forbidden darkness.
The moment the truth about the lost princess is revealed…
crowns will fall,
kingdoms will burn,
and hearts will be destroyed.
For in Valedria, love may be the most dangerous secret of all.

Chapter 1

Rain battered the stained-glass windows of Auremont Palace the night the kingdom lost its princess.

The storm had swallowed the moon whole, draping Kingdom of Valedria in darkness while thunder shook the towering palace walls.

Inside the royal nursery, however, warmth still remained.

Candles glowed softly against ivory walls embroidered with silver roses. A fire crackled gently in the marble hearth while the faint scent of lavender lingered in the air.

Queen Queen Seraphina Auremont sat beside the cradle, cradling her newborn daughter carefully against her chest.

The baby had finally stopped crying.

“She likes your voice better than mine,” a deep voice murmured nearby.

Seraphina looked up to find King Lucien Auremont watching them from across the room, exhaustion visible beneath his eyes despite the faint smile touching his lips.

“You terrify half the kingdom,” she teased softly. “Perhaps she senses it too.”

Lucien scoffed quietly before walking toward them. His fingers brushed gently against the infant’s tiny hand, and immediately the baby curled her fingers around his thumb.

The king went still.

Every time she touched him, something inside his chest unraveled.

“So small,” he murmured.

Seraphina smiled faintly. “And already ruling over you.”

A low laugh escaped him.

Outside, lightning flashed across the sky.

For a brief moment, silver light flooded the nursery before darkness returned again.

The baby stirred.

Seraphina adjusted the blanket wrapped around her daughter carefully, revealing the small silver crest stitched into the fabric—the royal emblem of House Auremont.

“Our Evelisse,” she whispered lovingly.

Lucien lowered his gaze at the mention of the name.

Princess Princess Evelisse Auremont.

The future of Valedria.

The kingdom had celebrated her birth for weeks. Church bells rang from every district. Nobles traveled across the continent bearing gifts. Even the poor lit candles outside the palace gates for the newborn princess they called the Silver Child.

Yet despite the celebration, unease lingered throughout the palace.

Rumors.

Whispers.

Old prophecies resurfacing from forgotten texts.

Lucien hated prophecies.

They turned frightened men into dangerous ones.

Another knock sounded at the nursery doors.

“Enter,” the king called.

A palace maid stepped inside nervously, bowing her head immediately.

“Your Majesties,” she said softly. “The High Keeper has arrived.”

Seraphina glanced toward Lucien.

Neither spoke for a moment.

Then the king exhaled quietly. “Send him in.”

The maid bowed again before retreating.

A moment later, the doors opened once more.

Lord Darius Valthor entered the nursery dressed in dark ceremonial robes trimmed with silver thread. Rainwater glistened across his shoulders from the storm outside.

The silver pendant hanging from his neck caught the candlelight as he approached slowly.

Every servant inside the room lowered their heads instinctively.

Not out of love.

Out of reverence.

Fear.

“The storm worsens,” Darius said calmly. “The northern roads have flooded.”

Lucien nodded once. “Then we’ll discuss it tomorrow.”

But Darius’s gaze had already shifted toward the infant princess.

For one brief moment, the room felt strangely cold.

“She is beautiful,” he murmured.

Seraphina instinctively tightened her hold around the baby.

Darius noticed.

A faint smile touched his lips.

“Forgive me, Your Majesty,” he said gently. “The kingdom has prayed endlessly for her safe birth. The people see her as a blessing.”

“Then let them continue praying from a distance,” Lucien replied flatly.

The tension lasted only seconds before Darius inclined his head politely.

“Of course.”

Lightning flashed outside again.

The baby suddenly began crying.

Loudly.

Desperately.

Darius’s eyes lingered on her for a second too long.

Then he stepped back.

“I will leave you to your family.”

Without another word, he turned and disappeared through the nursery doors.

Only after he left did Seraphina finally exhale.

Lucien noticed immediately. “You dislike him.”

“He unsettles me.”

“He unsettles everyone.”

Another crash of thunder shook the palace.

Then suddenly, the palace bells rang.

Once.

Twice.

Then violently.

Lucien’s expression changed instantly.

Alarm bells.

The nursery doors burst open.

A bloodied guard stumbled inside. “Your Majesty—the west wing has been breached!”

“What?” Lucien barked.

“Masked intruders—”

A scream echoed somewhere deep within the palace.

Then another.

The king drew his sword immediately.

“Stay here,” he ordered Seraphina.

But before either of them could move—

The windows exploded inward.

Glass shattered across the nursery floor as freezing wind roared into the room. Candles extinguished instantly.

Seraphina screamed, shielding the baby against her chest.

Three masked figures climbed through the broken windows.

Lucien lunged forward with his sword, steel clashing violently inside the nursery.

One attacker fell immediately.

Another slammed into the king, sending both crashing against the marble table.

The room erupted into chaos.

Servants screamed.

Blood splattered across the floor.

Seraphina backed toward the cradle desperately while clutching Evelisse tightly against her body.

“No—stay away from her!”

One masked intruder grabbed the queen’s arm violently.

She fought back with frantic strength.

The baby cried hysterically.

Lucien killed another attacker near the doorway, but more flooded into the corridor beyond.

Too many.

Far too many.

Then, a hand seized the infant.

Seraphina screamed.

The baby slipped from her arms.

For one horrifying second, she saw only tiny fingers disappearing into darkness.

“EVELISSE!” Lucien turned sharply at the sound of his daughter’s cries.

A masked figure vanished through the shattered windows carrying the child wrapped in silver blankets.

“No!” the king roared.

He lunged forward, but another attacker intercepted him.

Steel clashed again.

The storm swallowed everything.

The queen collapsed onto the bloodstained nursery floor screaming her daughter’s name while thunder shook the heavens above Valedria.

And somewhere beyond the palace walls…

the crown princess disappeared into the night.
