Introduction

"911, what's your emergency?"
"I'm... handcuffed to a towel rack." Humiliation nearly swallowed me whole.
Fifteen minutes later, LAFD kicked down my door—and the man standing in the wreckage was the last person on earth I wanted to see me like this.
Leon Crawford. My ex. The one I broke up with three years ago.
He didn't cut me loose. He circled my apartment like a predator, his jaw tightening with every wine glass, every stray jacket he found.
"Where's the guy who did this to you?" he growled.
There was no guy. But how do I explain the lie I told him three years ago—that I'd fallen for someone else?

Chapter 1

——

Last night was my birthday. Amy had dragged a few friends over to my apartment and thrown together a small Halloween-themed party.

I was so exhausted I collapsed into bed the second everyone left, leaving the whole place a wreck—wine glasses, jackets, chaos everywhere.

The next evening, I woke up and was heading to the bathroom to shower when I spotted it on the counter: the "single girl's consolation gift" Amy had shoved into my hands.

"You are so going to need this, Vi."

I picked up the black-and-gold box. Tore it open.

A pair of pink handcuffs.

Maybe it was the leftover alcohol, or maybe I just wasn't thinking straight, but I slid my left hand through the bar of the heated towel rack on the wall—and then, for some godforsaken reason, locked my right hand in too.

I struck an exaggerated "help me" pose, ready to snap a photo.

I was reaching for my phone on the counter, angling for a shot in the mirror to send to the group chat and roast Amy's terrible taste in gifts, when my elbow knocked against the handcuff key.

The tiny silver key went flying and dropped, with pinpoint precision, straight into the drain.

It vanished with the water in an instant.

I stayed frozen there, hands cuffed to the towel rack, staring at that drain for a solid ten seconds.

At first, I wasn't even worried.

I hooked a bobby pin off the bathroom shelf with my toes and tried to pick the lock like some kind of movie spy.

Failed.

I tried to bend the towel rack's bar by brute force.

Didn't budge an inch.

Two hours later, my wrists were rubbed raw, an angry red ring burning into the skin.

And to make things worse, this thing had some kind of sadistic anti-escape mechanism—the more I struggled, the tighter the gears clicked shut.

The bathroom window wasn't shut all the way, and the night wind kept gusting in. I was standing there in nothing but a thin black lace slip, shivering.

Out of options, I called Siri for help.

Thank god, I got through to 911.

"911, what's your emergency?"

"I—I'm stuck." I bit my lip, my face burning.

"Ma'am, please state your location and describe the situation. Is there any danger to life?"

"No danger to life. But... I'm handcuffed to something in my bathroom. In my apartment."

There was a two-second silence on the other end.

"Alright, ma'am, we've dispatched the nearest LAFD rescue unit. Please stay calm, they'll be there shortly."

Fifteen minutes later.

Sirens screamed from the street below.

Then came the heavy sound of combat boots pounding up the hallway.

"LAFD! Anyone in there?"

"I'm in the bathroom!" I shouted back, my voice shaking with pure humiliation.

"Ma'am, the door's locked, we're going to have to break it down! Stand clear!"

A loud crash. Splinters of wood flew from the doorframe.

Then a second hit.

The front door burst open.

I heard footsteps flood into the living room, then a brief pause.

"I'm in the bathroom!" I called out again.

A young firefighter rushed to the half-closed bathroom door and shoved it open.

A flashlight beam hit me square in the face.

I squeezed my eyes shut instinctively, turning my head away.

"Clear. No fire," a young voice announced.

Then the beam of light dropped, sweeping slowly down my body.

The room went dead silent.

I could feel several people standing in the doorway.

Their breathing seemed to stop the instant they took in the sight of me.

"Jesus Christ..."

I squeezed my eyes shut even tighter, wishing I could just disappear on the spot.

"Please... just cut me loose." My voice came out barely above a whisper.

No response.

Just the sound of heavy boots on the floor.

One step. Then another. Slow. But heavy with a kind of pressure that filled the whole room.

The footsteps stopped right in front of me.

I forced my eyes open, terrified.

Leon Crawford.

He was in full LAFD navy turnout gear, helmet tucked under one thick forearm.

His gaze traveled from my tangled hair, down to my bare shoulder where the slip's strap had slipped, and finally locked onto the handcuffs.

"Captain..." the rookie behind him, Luke, stammered. "This—this is..."

Leon didn't turn around. His throat worked in a hard, visible swallow.

"Violet."

His voice came out rough, thick with something fiercely restrained.

"That guy from last night's party. Where is he?"

My mind went completely blank.

"...What?"

Five years of marriage. Elara found a cardiac compatibility report in her husband Damian's study. Only then did she realize that Damian Montgomery — the youngest Italian mafia don in history — had loved her and cherished her all these years for one sole purpose: to transplant her heart into the woman he truly loved, Vivian.

Damian coldly gripped her jaw. "Vivian's condition has worsened. The surgery is set for one month from now. Don't worry — I'll find you the best burial plot, and I'll make sure your family is well provided for. You need to understand: if it weren't for your heart, you never could have become my wife, never could have become Mrs. Montgomery. You've enjoyed years of a lavish life. Now it's time to give something back."

Even the son she had raised with her own hands screamed at her: "Why won't you just die? If you die, your heart can go to Vivian! I want Vivian to be my mom!"

Elara fell apart. But she was not completely broken.

She slipped the divorce agreement into a stack of contracts that needed Damian's signature. He didn't read closely. He signed. Now, she was free.

Elara accepted the offer — Top Jewelry Appraiser, a seven-figure annual salary. She gave herself one month to say goodbye to the five years she had lost. She withdrew from Damian's life and Caleb's life, little by little, until nothing of her remained.

Until that night, when Damian watched helplessly as a bullet tore through her shoulder and she plunged into the freezing waters of the Atlantic.

"No! Elara! You are not allowed to die!"

In that moment, Damian finally understood — somewhere across those five years, he had already fallen in love with Elara. And a certain truth he had always believed in reversed itself after Elara walked away.

He had been wrong. Catastrophically wrong. Wrong from the very beginning. This proud, noble, and ruthless mafia don was consumed by remorse, and vowed to spend the rest of his life in atonement — to win back Elara, who had lost every last shred of faith in him.

"Elara, I'm begging you. Come back. Come back to me and Caleb."

"Mommy, I'm sorry. Please don't abandon me."

When Elara — now an international figure, admired and adored by countless people — comes face to face once again with the man she once loved with all her heart, and the son who once wished her dead, what choice will she make?

you are my queen, and I want to kiss you now,” he said.
I’m not sure that was what I expected him to say, but I had been waiting to hear it. I smiled playfully, looking at him. “Yes, my king,” I said.
Moments, his lips were on mine. The kiss was soft and gentle at first, his hands wrapped around my waist, pulling me close to him; I let my arms find their way around his neck. I felt his tongue gently run along my lower lip and couldn’t help the soft moan that escaped my mouth at its touch. Von only took that as permission and slipped his tongue into my mouth; I let my tongue explore his mouth as he did the same to mine. Eventually, the kiss grew deeper, and before I knew it, I was straddling his lap in one quick motion. His hands found their way to my hair, tangled in it as he tugged it lightly in his grip. I couldn’t help moaning against his lips; a growl of pleasure came from deep in his throat.

My name is Arianna Maree Paxton however I Hate that name my parents gave me that name, after my , great-great grandmother. So I go by Ari. you see my parents are hardly that they hate me in every way possible. I am only here to be their slave and plaything, otherwise they probably would of killed me a long time ago. My family belong to a pride of snow leopards well now were more of a group then a pride most of us have died out. However, they do have their own rules they each follow but for the most part the respect each other, it doesn’t mean they share anything by any means. Each has their own schools, hospitals, and way of living but terrroity and lives are generally respected. However, I feel that is mostly in part to fear of the Royal family.

However my species is dying out because they have lost their way , when you force your leopard to do horrid things it will eventually leave you , which was what was happing all around me , when that happens you can no longer find a mate , and usually you lose your mind. Without mates we can no longer reproduce hence the feeling of the end coming soon. Or at least I thought that was the reason I have that feeling but I kind of feel like something bigger is on the way.
