Your Daddy, My Husband: I Married a Billionaire
Claire · Ongoing · 46.1k Words
Introduction
But three years into our marriage, I discovered the horrifying truth—our marriage certificate was fake, and my husband had already gotten his young stepmother pregnant.
Abandoned by the man I loved, I was suddenly told that I was the long-lost heiress of a powerful billionaire family.
And the father of my husband—the untouchable trillionaire at the top of the world—offered to become my protector.
He was older, dangerous, wealthy, and powerful. He taught me how to become the heiress I was born to be.
I always saw him as nothing more than an elder.
Until one night, he leaned close and whispered,
“Forget my son. From now on, you’re the one who belongs to me.”
Chapter 1
Lena Harper's POV
The doctor's voice was gentle, but her words landed like a stone dropped into still water.
"Ms. Harper, we've been unable to verify your marriage registration on file. Until the documentation issue is resolved, I'm afraid we can't proceed with the IVF procedure."
"That's impossible." I slid the marriage certificate across her desk. "My husband and I registered three years ago. It's all right there."
She didn't even glance at it. She pushed it back to me with the tips of her fingers, her expression carefully neutral. "Ms. Harper, I'd suggest visiting the marriage registry office to confirm the record in person. Sometimes these situations involve... complications that aren't immediately apparent."
Something cold moved through me, slow and deliberate, like ice water filling my chest from the bottom up. Elliott had handled the registration himself. He'd insisted on it. If there was a problem with the certificate, there was only one explanation — and the moment that thought formed, I shoved it away.
I wouldn't believe it. Not yet.
"Ma'am? Are you all right?"
I startled at the doctor's voice and pushed to my feet too quickly, nearly catching my hip on the edge of the desk. "Thank you," I managed, pulling my mouth into something that approximated a smile. "I'll go sort it out."
The hallway swam under the fluorescent lights as I walked out. My eyes burned. I blinked hard, refusing to let the tears fall, and kept moving — kept telling myself there was a reasonable explanation, that Elliott would never do something like this to me.
We'd been in the same cohort at university. He had pursued me for years with a patience I'd found both exhausting and quietly moving. One winter night he'd stood outside my dormitory in a snowstorm for hours, too stubborn to leave, his coat soaked through and his lips going blue by the time I finally came down. I had turned him down ninety-eight times. This was the ninety-ninth, I said yes, and the way he'd kissed me in that moment — urgent and disbelieving and full — I still carried that with me.
A man who loved like that did not lie like this.
I was still turning it over in my mind when I looked up and saw him.
My feet stopped.
Elliott was coming out of the obstetrics clinic directly across the hall.
He was wearing the charcoal suit I'd laid out for him that morning, and he was guiding a woman by the elbow with the same careful tenderness I had always believed was reserved for me. The woman turned slightly, and I caught her profile — a delicate jaw, pale skin, the kind of beauty that looked effortless and wasn't.
Cecilia Black. Elliott's father's second wife.
She was wearing a soft yellow knit top, and one hand rested on the unmistakable curve of her belly. Her voice drifted across the corridor, sweet and unhurried.
"Elliott, our second child is almost here. When is it finally going to be able to call you Daddy — properly, in front of everyone?"
The cold that had been sitting in my chest cracked open and spread everywhere at once.
"Not long now." Elliott's voice was low and certain. "Once we know this one's a boy, Grandfather will be pleased enough that I can tell him the truth about us."
Cecilia's face lit up, then softened into something practiced and plaintive. "And what about Lena? What happens to her?"
There was a brief pause. When Elliott spoke again, there was a faint curl of contempt in his tone that I had never heard before. "She was always just a cover. I needed something to keep Father from suspecting us, and she was convenient. Believe me, I wouldn't have married a woman with no family, no connections, no background, if I'd had any other option."
He said it the way someone might describe a bad investment — without malice, without feeling, with the mild disdain of a man who had simply moved on. "I've been putting contraceptives in her milk every morning since the wedding. The family already thinks she's barren. Once you deliver a son, she'll have no reason left to be there."
The milk.
Every morning for three years, Elliott had brought me a warm glass of milk before bed. He'd said it would help me sleep. I had thanked him for it. I had thought it meant something.
The marriage certificate was still in my hand. I felt my fingers tighten around it until the edges bent, until the cover was dark and wet — and I realized distantly that my palm was bleeding where my nails had cut in.
I was already walking toward them before I decided to move.
Elliott must have heard my footsteps. He turned, and for one unguarded instant I saw something flicker across his face — not guilt exactly, but the sharp, instinctive wariness of someone caught in a place they shouldn't be. It was gone almost immediately, replaced by a harder expression.
"What are you doing here? Were you following me?"
"I came for an IVF consultation." My voice came out steadier than I felt. "I wanted to surprise you. I thought the problem was mine." I let out a short, humorless breath. "Turns out there's nothing wrong with me at all. And as for our marriage —" I flung the certificate at him. It struck the side of his face before fluttering to the floor. "That certificate is a fake, and you know it."
He jerked back. A flash of something crossed his eyes — and then it hardened into anger. "What the hell has gotten into you? I brought Cecilia in because she wasn't feeling well. That's all this is. Stop making a scene."
"Cecilia." I repeated the name. "You're on a first-name basis with your stepmother. Isn't that cozy."
Cecilia stepped out from behind him, her face arranged into an expression of wounded innocence. "Lena, please — you're misunderstanding the situation. There's nothing between us, I promise—"
"You've been sleeping with your stepson," I said. "You're carrying his child. Don't stand in front of me and talk about misunderstandings."
The color drained from her face. She swayed, one hand flying to her stomach, her whole body performing the fragility she'd spent years perfecting.
Elliott moved between us in an instant. His hand connected with my face before I even registered that he'd raised it — a full, open-palmed strike that snapped my head sideways and sent me stumbling backward.
The edge of a waiting area chair caught me across the back of the skull, and I went down hard onto the tile floor, the impact ringing through my teeth.
Something warm ran down from my hairline into my eye. I blinked and the world was red.
"You don't get to speak about her like that." His voice came from somewhere above me, cold and impatient, as though I were a minor inconvenience he'd already mentally moved past. "When you're ready to apologize to Cecilia, we can talk. Until then, think about what you've done."
He didn't look at me again. He put his arm around Cecilia and walked away down the hall. She glanced back once over his shoulder, and the expression on her face was not distress.
It was satisfaction.
I don't know how long I lay there. People moved around me — some stopped, some didn't. I heard the sound of a phone camera shutter. I heard someone laugh. Eventually I got an elbow under me and then a knee and then I was standing, one hand pressed to the wound above my temple, the tissue already soaked through.
I walked out through the main lobby and through the front doors and into the rain, which had started while I was inside. It fell on my face and mixed with what was still leaking from the cut and I stood on the sidewalk for a long moment, not entirely sure where I was supposed to go. The Anderson house was behind me in every sense that mattered. But I had no other home — I never had.
I was an orphan, and I had built my sense of belonging entirely around a man who had been calculating the cost of my removal since the day we married.
Then I heard the engines.
Six black Bentleys rolled into the street in a single column and came to a stop in front of me, one after another, sealing off the block with quiet authority. Every door opened in near-unison. Twelve men in black suits stepped out and arranged themselves in formation on the wet pavement. At the front of the lead car, an elderly man emerged — silver-haired, impeccably dressed in a tailored tailcoat, carrying himself with the unhurried composure of someone who had never needed to rush for anything in his life.
He raised one hand slightly. All twelve men bent at the waist in a single, synchronized motion, ninety degrees, and held it.
"Miss Harper."
I stared at them.
The old man stepped forward and inclined his head with precise, formal courtesy. "Ms. Lena Harper, I am Glew, the head of household for the Lambert family. You are the only daughter of Mr. Richard Lambert and his wife, Mrs. Elizabeth Lambert. Twenty-five years ago, you were taken by a household employee. It has taken the family until today to find you."
The Lambert family. One of the oldest and most powerful names in New York.
I took a step back. My first coherent thought was that he was a con man, or worse. My second thought was that after this morning, I no longer had the luxury of assuming the world made sense.
He reached into his breast pocket and produced a folded document, offering it with both hands. "A paternity report. You and Mr. Richard Lambert, and Mrs. Elizabeth Lambert."
My hands were shaking as I opened it. I turned through the pages slowly. The results were consistent across every marker — 99.99% probability of biological parentage. At the bottom, the official seal of the New York State Forensic Science Commission was pressed into the paper in raised ink that couldn't be faked.
When I finally found my voice, it barely sounded like mine. "My parents — why aren't they here themselves?"
"Mr. and Mrs. Lambert were in Manchester for a conference. The moment they received word of your location, they left immediately. They should be arriving very—"
Glew's phone rang. He glanced at the screen, and something shifted in his face, "How is this possible?"
