Chapter 1
Veronica's pov
"Doctor Veronica sidorov?..."
I placed my coffee mug down and looked at my subordinate.
"Ward no 16"
Dr. Matthew rolled his eyes.
I sighed.
"Don't worry, Doctor... I'll handle it for you but I need to attend my patients in fifteen minutes..."
Doctor Matthew has just joined our hospital after working in America and the first patient he got is some important personality from the Russia.
I feel bad for Doctor Matthew that he couldn't earn the trust of the patient and now I have to attend his patient because per their opinion, I am the most experienced doctor in this hospital. Note the sarcasm!
And let me tell you it's not fun at all.
"Thanks... Don't worry I'll attend your patients..."
He said, disappointment flashing on his face.
He is an excellent doctor and I understand that this treatment must have scratched his ego.
"Thanks!"
I cut the conversation short and head towards the ward no 16.
Number 16 never felt so unique before.
I don't know why but my heart picked up the race when ward came to my view.
This patient is the most difficult and mysterious patient of my life.
Vladimir Volkov!
Last month his bodyguards brought him here battered in his own blood, he was critical. It was a major car accident. Our team successfully treated him with extra care because of course he is a VIP patient. He has literally tricked the death.
Later I came to know that he is one of the richest businessman in Russia and that explains his tantrums. His bodyguards are always around, looking and checking everyone suspiciously, Even medicines and it's so irritating.
He demanded the best doctor in the hospital and they made me a scapegoat, The hospital authorities had strictly ordered his priority . This man has very short temper and almost all nurses has cried while treating him. And the results are, no one is ready to enter this ward except me.
He hasn't said anything to me yet, he stays quiet when I am treating him but that doesn't mean I am not nervous around him. He has something in him which makes me feel conscious around him.
I took a deep breath and entered the ward. My heart skipped a beat when he looked up at me with his egle eyes. I never imagined that grey can be this terrifying, yet here I am, afraid to look into eyes of my patient. I quickly looked away from his icy eyes.
I placed my stethoscope on the counter.
"Good evening, Mr. Volkov"
No answer from him but I could feel his gaze on my back. He always does this. It feels like he is the one who is examining me.
His eyes does something to me. It feels like I am tied down. Whenever his skin touches me, my body sets on fire. His every move....
God! Stop it.
I checked his x-rays and turned towards him.
His injuries has almost healed. Today I'll remove the cast from his wrist and then it's done. He is free to go home. And I am free to prioritise my patients, because of his weird behavior people think we are doing something.
I tried to control my hammering heart which is uncontrollable due to his eyes on me. Even if he is injured, his raven black hair is styled neatly, perfect sharp jaw, light stubble and pointed nose.
I have never seen a handsome man like him. He is like an artist's favourite sculpture to which he gives extra attention.
"You have shown a great recovery, Mr. Volkov.."
Despite of the storm inside me I managed to deliver it confidently. Still no answer.
I wonder why he doesn't yell at me like he does with other staff.
"We will check the stitches we removed yesterday and then I'll remove your cast, your fracture has healed..."
He looked at his bodyguard who was standing by the door and he left.
I don't know why he wants us alone whenever I am treating him.
I gulped and went closer to him. He sat up straight and bed moved with his weight.
"We will remove your shirt first..."
I mumbled.
Voice Vera! Keep it confident.
He sat on the edge of the bed and I stood in front of him.
I opened the buttons of his shirt and revealed his broad chest. He is build like a mountain. Every part of his body is like a carved one.
I slide his shirt down from his shoulders and stilled when his nose touched my belly.
This is not new, since I have started attending him, physical contacts like this are happening very often.
I am not surprised, I have experienced this before. Sometimes by accident or sometimes due to perverted patients and I have always ignored it.
But this time the problem is, his touch draws reaction from my body. My body likes his touch and it's wrong. Terribly wrong!
I stepped back and squeezed the water out of the sponge to clean his body. Nurses are not ready to attend this hot headed man so I have to do everything. I can't ignore it because we have clear orders from the management that we should 'satisfy' his every condition. I don't know what this 'satisfy' exactly means.
I wonder how much power he holds to mend and bent the rule of this hospital.
As he always does, he laid back in the middle of the bed and I can't reach to him from the side of the bed. Does he do it on purpose? he knows that I can't reach him like this without sitting on the bed.
I can argue with him but I don't want to create drama and of course I don't want to get fired.
I sat on the bed, close beside him so I could clean his chest.
I kept my eyes on his chest as I wiped it with sponge avoiding his eyes on me.
He knows that I can sense him looking at me. What's his problem?
I almost gasped when he grabbed my wrist with his large hand and placed my hand on his neck.
"It's needed here"
He said in his thick Russian accent and Thank God! he doesn't talk often otherwise it would have been another problem for me.
I cleaned his neck the way he wanted and checked his wounds.
"Good!... There is no infection"
I looked at him and his eyes held me captive once again.
He slowly leaned towards me and I did the opposite.
"You didn't come last night!"
He said with the hint of irritation in his voice as his eyes landed on my wedding ring.
Yes! I am married!
I stood up from the bed and started preparing to remove his cast.
"I had important surgery to perform..."
I answered.
"Doctor Matthew is a good doctor... You shouldn't___"
"Good, not excellent"
He replied in a harsh tone while leaning back to the bedpost.
I started removing his cast.
"What made you think that I am excellent?"
I asked keeping my eyes on the task.
"I don't need to answer you"
He replied.
"You should because I am attending you since last month... And this is not my job..."
I looked into his eyes, challengingly.
I finally freed his hand from the cast and loud gasp escaped my mouth when his hand snaked around my waist and he flipped me on the bed beneath him.
My heart almost jumped out of my chest. He is on top of me without shirt. If someone catches us like this then I will loose my job.
"Mr. Volkov this is____"
"Shhh___"
His fingers traced my lips.
"I don't care if this is your job or not... I wanted you and I got you here."
My breath stuck in my throat when his lips stopped few inches away from mine. His hand is on my waist which is sending shivers in my body.
He smirked noticing the reaction of my body.
"I take what I want, at any condition!..."
His knuckles travelled from my cheek to my neck and my desperate pussy started throbbing in need.
I don't understand what drew strong reaction like this from my body. The thing that he is incredibly handsome or the fact that no man has touched me since last two years.
Right! My husband hasn't touched me since two years.
"Mr. Volkov... This is very inappropriate behavior"
I breathed out.
"This is a professional place and I am a married woman..."
His eyes found my Ring again and his jaw clenched.
"I don't like to beat around the bush, Doc... I know that you know what's going on in my mind..."
"We don't read mind here"
I replied.
He smirked.
"I want you..."
"Correction, Mr. Volkov..."
I glared at him.
"You want my body!"
His smirk widened.
"You are smart... I love it..."
"It's not possible"
I pushed on his chest and he sat up without any protest. I quickly sat up in a sitting position while fixing my scrub.
"I am married and___"
Before I complete he grabbed the back of my neck and brushed his lips against mine.
I swear I felt thunders passing in my body with that small touch.
"There is no rush... Think about it..."
He whispered as his hand travelled from my neck to the valley of my breasts and finally broke the skin contact.
I grabbed the opportunity and rushed out of the bed and didn't stop until I was 10 feet away from the ward.

I Loved You in Silence, You Betrayed Me in French
At my birthday party, my husband whispered to his mistress in French that he missed her. His voice was low, but I heard it all—the black lingerie, the bit about how pregnancy makes you more sensitive. His French clients around us were laughing. He turned and put his arm around me, claiming he was just helping his clients come up with sweet nothings.
He doesn't know I understand every single word. Just like he doesn't know that inside my body, I'm carrying his other surprise. And his mistress—she's pregnant too. Two wombs, one secret.
Confrontation would be too cheap. Tears are worthless. I quietly started cataloging the hidden networks my father left behind, activating the Swiss accounts.
In seven days, Zoey Smith will cease to exist. And what will my husband's reaction be?
When I Disappeared, He Regretted It
The moment the screen lit up, my entire world came crashing down.
The woman on the bed was Calista - that girl who grew up with us since we were kids. And that hand caressing her skin was wearing the wedding ring I had personally put on Matteo's finger.
"I've missed you so much..."
"You drive me crazy, baby..."
Those sweet words I knew so well completely destroyed me.
Everyone said we were the perfect couple, but who knew this marriage was built on nothing but lies?
Since he's so good at acting, I guess it's time I gave him a show of my own. I'm going to make sure everyone sees what this "perfect husband" really is...
He Never Loved Me, Until I Left
I put away the divorce agreement with a wry smile.
When he and my son completely disappeared, he finally panicked.
Three months later .
He knelt down on the streets of Chicago in despair, begging me to remarry him.
My six-year-old son looked coldly at his biological father and said, "Get lost, you bad uncle! You don't deserve to be my dad!"
He Thought I'd Never Leave
When he said he was being bullied, I believed him. When he kissed me on that rooftop, I thought he felt the same. When he asked me to transfer schools with him, I said yes without hesitation.
Then I heard him bragging to his friends: "She'd save her first time for me. Hell, she'd still be thinking of me on her wedding night."
The bullying was staged. The kiss meant nothing. He just wanted me gone—so his new girl could feel more comfortable.
He thought I'd beg. He thought I'd cry. He thought I'd never actually leave.
I left the country.
And ran straight into his stepbrother.
I Died While They Threw Her a Party
Their real daughter came home. She'd only been back two years. That's all it took to erase twenty-four.
When kidnappers grabbed us, I used my body as a shield. They beat me until something inside me ruptured. I was dying from internal bleeding, but no one could tell.
My parents wouldn't even look at me. "This is your fault! None of this would've happened if it weren't for you!"
"Get downstairs and apologize to your sister. If you can't, pack your things and get out."
They threw her a party at a downtown hotel while I died alone in my room.
I thought they'd be relieved. Maybe even glad. I thought they'd just move on like I never existed.
But when they finally learned the truth, they fell apart.
Bury Me in His Regret
The kidnapper pressed the gun to my temple and asked, "Choose your wife or your sister-in-law?"
Zachary didn't hesitate. "Let Valerie go," he said.
He actually chose to save his sister-in-law! In that moment, even the baby in my belly seemed to stop kicking.
Later, they locked me in the basement. Drugs to delay labor were pumped into my veins over and over. Zachary wanted to save the "firstborn son" status for his sister-in-law's child.
When warm blood finally soaked through my skirt, I dialed the number I knew by heart with shaking hands.
"Zachary," I whispered into the phone, "our child... can't wait any longer."
The Kidney That Killed Me
A few months ago, my sister was hospitalized with kidney failure. The doctor said she needed a transplant. My family's first thought was me—the backup daughter they'd kept around all these years.
When my husband Allen took my hand with tears in his eyes and said, "Only you can save her," I agreed without hesitation.
When the doctor explained the surgical risks and potential complications, I smiled and nodded my understanding.
My parents said I'd finally learned what sisterly love meant.
Even Allen, who'd always been cold to me, held my hand gently and said, "The surgery's safe. You're so healthy, nothing will go wrong. When you recover, I'll take you to Hawaii."
But they don't know that no matter how the surgery goes, I won't be around to celebrate.
Because I just got my own test results—I have terminal brain cancer. I'm going to die anyway.
After the Affair: Falling into a Billionaire's Arms
From first crush to wedding vows, George Capulet and I had been inseparable. But in our seventh year of marriage, he began an affair with his secretary.
On my birthday, he took her on vacation. On our anniversary, he brought her to our home and made love to her in our bed...
Heartbroken, I tricked him into signing divorce papers.
George remained unconcerned, convinced I would never leave him.
His deceptions continued until the day the divorce was finalized. I threw the papers in his face: "George Capulet, from this moment on, get out of my life!"
Only then did panic flood his eyes as he begged me to stay.
When his calls bombarded my phone later that night, it wasn't me who answered, but my new boyfriend Julian.
"Don't you know," Julian chuckled into the receiver, "that a proper ex-boyfriend should be as quiet as the dead?"
George seethed through gritted teeth: "Put her on the phone!"
"I'm afraid that's impossible."
Julian dropped a gentle kiss on my sleeping form nestled against him. "She's exhausted. She just fell asleep."

But she's not. I can feel her excitement bubbling under my skin, while all I feel is dread.
We turn the corner, and the scent hits me like a punch to the chest—cinnamon and something impossibly warm. My eyes scan the room until they land on him. Tall. Commanding. Beautiful.
And then, just as quickly… he sees me.
His expression twists.
"Fuck no."
He turns—and runs.

The Human Among Wolves
My stomach twisted, but he wasn’t finished.
"You're just a pathetic little human," Zayn said, his words deliberate, each one hitting like a slap. "Spreading your legs for the first guy who bothers to notice you."
Heat rushed to my face, burning with humiliation. My chest ached — not from his words alone, but from the sick realization that I had trusted him. That I had let myself believe he was different.
I was so, so stupid.
