He Hired a Stand-In. I Married His Brother.
Agatha Christie · Ongoing · 7.2k Words
Introduction
I stood outside my bedroom door the night before my wedding, listening to my fiancé Theodore plot with my adopted sister, my own parents nodding along.
They thought I was broken. A defective bride too blind to know she was being played.
They wanted a stand-in groom? Fine. I'd give them one.
So I gave them their fake wedding. With one little change.
The "random stand-in" they're expecting? He's Theodore's worst enemy. He's Sebastian Kingsley.
Oh, and according to the marriage certificate we signed three hours ago—he's also my husband.

Chapter 1
"Margaret has face blindness—she won't even recognize the groom. Tomorrow's ceremony? Just stick any random guy up there with her. Isabelle, I'll marry YOU in the rose garden. Our real wedding."
Margaret's POV
I have face blindness.
Severe prosopagnosia, to be exact. The sole heiress to the Thornhill empire, daughter of one of the youngest billionaires in the country — and I cannot recognize a single human face.
In my world, every face dissolves into a smear of static. I navigate by voice, by scent, by the particular way someone holds their shoulders or crosses a room. That's how I've always lived. That's how I've always had to live.
Theodore used to be my anchor in all of it. At galas packed with Manhattan's finest, he'd take my hand and whisper names in my ear — that's Senator Walsh on your left, don't look yet — like a translator working in real time. Once, he cupped my face in his hands and said, "Margaret, don't worry. I'll be your eyes. Always."
I believed him. God help me, I believed every word.
So I signed over thirty percent of Thornhill Group as my dowry. I convinced my parents to deed the Hampton estate — fifty million dollars of oceanfront property — as our marital home. I handed him the keys to everything.
Tomorrow was supposed to be our wedding day.
Two in the morning. I woke up thirsty, reaching across a bed that was cold on his side.
I assumed Theodore was in the study. I pulled on my silk robe and padded barefoot down the curved staircase, not bothering with the lights.
The sitting room door was cracked open. Lamplight leaked through the gap, and voices — low, urgent — bled into the hallway.
I stopped.
"Theodore, are you SURE about this?" My mother. Constance. Voice tight. "I mean, Margaret's face-blind, yeah, but she's not stupid."
"Relax, Constance. Jesus." Theodore, smooth as ever. "I got a guy from LA — same build, same height, custom tux, wearing my cologne. During the ceremony, she won't even be close enough to check. Long as he keeps his mouth shut, she won't know a damn thing."
My stomach dropped.
Then another voice. Soft, breathy. Isabelle. My adopted sister, playing the victim like always.
"But... I don't know. Is this really okay? I mean, I'm nobody. Just some orphan. How can I have a wedding in the rose garden while Margaret gets... God, if she finds out, she'll hate me. You know my depression's been bad lately, I just can't—"
"Sweetheart, stop." My father cut her off. Charles. Protective, heated. "Margaret has EVERYTHING. The inheritance, the company, the trust fund — all because Edward rigged his will in her favor from day one. The old man always picked her over us."
A beat of silence. Bitter.
"You lost your parents when you were just a kid. You've been through hell. Theodore loves YOU. So we're giving you a real ceremony in the garden while Margaret gets her photo op for the press. It's the least we can do, sweetheart. You deserve this."
"Exactly, baby." Theodore's voice dropped low, tender. The tone I used to think was mine. "Look, Margaret just needs the pictures. The optics, you know? But my vows — those are for you. The second the press clears out, the stand-in takes his hundred grand and disappears. Then I'm all yours."
I stood in the dark hallway and felt nothing. Just... nothing.
Then it hit. Not grief. Not shock. Something colder. Sharp.
This was my family. These were the people I'd trusted my entire life. And Theodore — the man who swore he'd be my EYES — had turned my disability into a con.
After Grandfather Edward died, I inherited his controlling stake in Thornhill Group, the Hampton estate, and a trust fund my parents had wanted for decades. They never forgave him for choosing me. They smiled at me across dinner tables for twenty years and never stopped resenting it.
Isabelle — the poor little orphan they rescued — had become their favorite weapon a long time ago.
And I'd been too busy trusting them to notice.
I looked down at my phone. Still recording.
Good. I'd been doing that for years. Paranoia, Theodore used to say. Babe, you don't need to record everything.
Turns out I did.
"So what about the stock transfer?" My father again, getting to the point. "That's locked in, right?"
"Oh, yeah. The second we wrap the ceremony, I sign the papers." Theodore sounded pleased with himself. "Thirty percent of Thornhill transfers to my name. After that? Manhattan penthouse, private yacht, whatever Isabelle wants. Done deal."
There it is.
The whole thing clicked. The patience. The hand-holding at a hundred charity dinners. The whispered names in my ear. He wanted the Thornhill fortune AND his precious Isabelle. Greedy, but not exactly genius-level scheming.
Theodore. You're really not as smart as you think.
I hit save, turned around, and walked back upstairs.
I didn't bother with the lights.
Straight to the safe. Dialed the combination. Pulled out the two documents I was supposed to sign in the morning: the prenup and the share transfer authorization.
I fed them both into the shredder. The machine hummed softly, chewing through my old life.
Then I called Sterling.
"Margaret." Voice rough with sleep. "It's two-thirty in the morning. What's wrong?"
"Listen carefully." I stood at the window, staring out at the black stretch of lawn. "Freeze everything connected to Theodore Grayson. Every transfer, every authorization, every document in motion. Nothing moves."
Silence. Then: "Margaret—"
"I also need a new prenup on my vanity by eight a.m. Charge me triple, I don't care."
"Your wedding is in nine hours." His tone sharpened. "What the hell is going on?"
"Just do it, Sterling. And one more thing — I need you to find someone. Theodore's older brother. Sebastian Grayson. The one the family disowned. I want to know where he is."
A pause. "Sebastian Grayson." He said the name carefully, testing its weight. "Margaret, that guy and Theodore have serious bad blood. What are you planning?"
"Find him. I'll handle the rest."
I hung up and looked at my reflection in the dark glass — a pale shape, indistinct, same as everyone else.
Prosopagnosia took something real from me. But it gave me something back. I learned early that faces lie. People show you what they want you to see. So I stopped looking at faces and started paying attention to everything else — the hesitation before a lie, the shift in someone's breathing, what they say when they think no one's listening.
Theodore wanted to play games with a stand-in?
Fine.
I could work with that.

After One Night with the Alpha
I thought I was waiting for love. Instead, I got fucked by a beast.
My world was supposed to bloom at the Moonshade Bay Full Moon Festival—champagne buzzing in my veins, a hotel room booked for Jason and me to finally cross that line after two years. I’d slipped into lacy lingerie, left the door unlocked, and lay on the bed, heart pounding with nervous excitement.
But the man who climbed into my bed wasn’t Jason.
In the pitch-black room, drowned in a heady, spicy scent that made my head spin, I felt hands—urgent, scorching—searing my skin. His thick, pulsing cock pressed against my dripping cunt, and before I could gasp, he thrust hard, tearing through my innocence with ruthless force. Pain burned, my walls clenching as I clawed at his iron shoulders, stifling sobs. Wet, slick sounds echoed with every brutal stroke, his body unrelenting until he shuddered, spilling hot and deep inside me.
"That was amazing, Jason," I managed to say.
"Who the fuck is Jason?"
My blood turned to ice. Light slashed across his face—Brad Rayne, Alpha of Moonshade Pack, a werewolf, not my boyfriend. Horror choked me as I realized what I’d done.
I ran away for my life!
But weeks later, I woke up pregnant with his heir!
They say my heterochromatic eyes mark me as a rare true mate. But I’m no wolf. I’m just Elle, a nobody from the human district, now trapped in Brad's world.
Brad’s cold gaze pins me: “You carry my blood. You’re mine.”
