Chapter 1
Joele (Jojo)
I’m a rich oil heiress whose parents has planned out my whole future since the day I was born, I was the oldest daughter of the Wayne family, set to marry the oldest son of the Devon’s family also oil tycoons. The things are we’ve never met, in all these years we’ve never met once, he went to University in Europe and since then lived in Europe running the companies branch there, according to the tabloids he was a real playboy.
But I lived my life in America, my parents promised The Devon’s I’m a real Southern beauty and will stay a virgin for their son. Someone I’ve never met before. That was how they sold me to them, or should I say that is how I felt, being sold. I mean arranged marriages in this day and age. I was a Sothern beauty I’m not going to deny that but I wasn’t all they set me up to be, yes I was still a virgin but I had a boyfriend for years and he was patient with me for years and years, he was happy with the blow jobs I gave him and that he could make me cum with his finger on my clit but he wasn’t allowed near my pussy entrance that was the holy grail that was only for Mr. Devon and he knew it. Was he happy about it no but he stayed with me so I guess he didn’t mind. I loved Morne and didn’t know how I’ll ever be able to leave him for someone I have no feelings for someone I didn’t know at all. But that was what was expected of me and in a rich oil money family like mine you do what is expected of you.
One afternoon after a date with Morne I walked into the house to find my mom and dad waiting for me in the living room. My dad was the first to speak “It’s time for you to break up with that boy.” “Why?” I asked because I wasn’t ready yet, I knew it was coming I just thought I will have more time. “Your fiancé is coming back in 2 months’ time and you need to be presentable I don’t want anyone seeing you with that guy before Benjamin comes back.” “That guy has been my boyfriend for 5 years dad his not just that guy.” “Well, you knew how we felt about your so-called boyfriend / girlfriend status it was never something we acknowledge you had a fiancé all this time, it’s not our fault you have to break his heart.” “You don’t think I know that Benjamin has had fling after fling with numerous women in Europe.” I almost screamed at my dad but a lady doesn’t scream. My mother was the one to jump in “What he does is none of your concern, he can go out with as many women as he wants, the man. But you you have our name and you will behave like a Wayne a proper lady, so dump that guy and we can start getting you ready for Benjamin’s arrival.” “Mom really, he can fuck around and I should stay at home hoping he will give me some scraps.” “Joele your language.” My mother said loudly but not screaming, oh no we don’t scream in this house. “I’ll think about it, I mean 2 months is still a long time.” I told them. “This is not a negotiation Joele, you will dump that boy and I want it done before the end of the week we have a dinner we have to go to with the Devon’s, formally introducing you to their people.” My dad said. “Their people? What does that mean?” “Just what I said there will be a dinner and you will be the guest of honor; Benjamin’s parents want to look at you and make sure you are who we said you are.” “What they going to check if my hymen is still in tacked as well?” “JOJO!” my mom actually screamed. “What it’s a legit question?” “No off course they won’t they will take your word for it. Although I’m not so sure.” My dad said insulting me. “Well for what it’s worth I still am.” “Great now go and break up with your boyfriend.”
I marched to my room to upset to say anything else, break up with Morne I wasn’t ready and we are in the middle of exams, how do they think I’ll be able to learn with a broken heart. Do they only think about themselves and their business, but then again when I went to study law, they weren’t to impress with me, I had to be a stay-at-home wife I didn’t needed a degree. That was our first big fight, I wanted to be an attorney and nothing will stop me of becoming one. I was hoping that there was a way in the law somewhere that what my parents were doing was illegal. In my heart I know it is but it’s a family thing looking for that law that said you can’t marry your children off to strangers, I couldn’t find it yet but maybe I can be the one that write a law like that one day. I took my phone and called Morne “Hi angel” He answered and I immediately burst out in tears. “Angel what’s wrong?” “I I I” “I’m coming to you right now.” “No no let me come to you, where can we meet?” “I’ll be at your gate in 20 minutes.” “Okay.” I said still sobbing. I grabbed my jacked and run down the stairs straight to the gate. The guard at the gate looked at me and could see I was crying. “You okay Miss?” He asked. But thank God Morne stopped and I could walk out of the Estate. I jumped into Morne’s Dodge Ram and he spined as we left my house.
“What’s going on angel? Talk to me.” “Benjamin Devon is coming back.” That was all I needed to say he also knew this day was coming. “In two months, my parents want me to break up with you.” “Why if he is only coming in two months’ time?” “Apparently there is going to be some sort of dinner for me next week and they don’t want me to be seen with anyone after that.” “Oh, fuck angel.” He said hitting the steering wheel. “I know right it’s so unfair and we are busy with exams I don’t want to leave you Morne I love you too much.” “I love you to babe but we knew this day was coming sooner or later. We always knew it.”
I stare at him, stunned, my heart plunging like we just drove off a cliff. Is he really ready to let me go just because my parents say so?
The engine roars louder, but inside the cab it’s suffocatingly quiet. The engine roars, the world rushes past in a blur, but inside the cab everything feels painfully still. If this is our countdown… how am I supposed to breathe through the next sixty days. In sixty days, I’m supposed to smile for Benjamin at a table full of crystal and lies. And knowing that when Benjamin walks back into my life, I’ll have to pretend Morne never existed?
I press my palm to my chest, trying to hold myself together as the miles disappear. If every touch from now on comes with an expiration date… how do I stop falling harder for a man I’m already doomed to lose—and what happens the first time Benjamin kisses me and all I can taste is Morne?

I gasped into him, his hand sliding up to cup my jaw, holding me as if afraid I might vanish.
"You drive me insane," he breathed against my mouth, his lips trailing to my throat. "I can't lose you, Ella. Not you."
My head fell back, a soft sound escaping me as his fingers memorized my waist. My anger melted beneath his desperation.
"James..." I whispered, more plea than protest.
His hand caught mine, fingers threading together tightly. "I'll bring him back. I swear it. Just... don't turn away from me. Please."
The word please—low, ragged, almost broken—undid me more than anything else could have.
