The girl who stole herself
Oyiza Ismail · Ongoing · 30.3k Words
Introduction
Forced into an uneasy alliance with the very detective determined to arrest her, she follows a trail of lies, stolen identities, and buried secrets that lead her to the one mystery she has spent years trying to ignore her own family.
Before her investigation, she and her mother including her siblings begins to suspect that her late father had been living a double life with a secret second family. After her investigation she found out there were the second family.
With every clue exposing another betrayal, she realizes the conspiracy runs far deeper than stolen names and forged documents. The truth about her father’s hidden life doesn’t just explain the imposter’s motives—it unravels everything she thought she knew about her past, her identity, and the family she believed she had lost.
Now, with time running out and enemies closing in from every side, she must expose the mastermind behind the deception before she becomes the final victim of a lie that began long before she was born.
Chapter 1
Elena Cross had worn eleven names in fourteen years, and none of them had ever felt like a lie until now.
Tonight she was Vivian Hale, art consultant, silk blouse, a voice trained to drop half an octave when she wanted to be believed.
The penthouse below her belonged to a shipping magnate named Corbin Reyes, a man who collected pre-war Cartier the way other men collected regret. In eleven minutes, his safe would be open. In twelve, she would be gone.
In thirteen, Vivian Hale would cease to exist, the way all her names eventually did — folded up and put away like a coat she no longer needed.
This was supposed to be the last one.
Six million in uncut diamonds, a buyer already wired and waiting in Zurich, and after that — nothing. No more names. No more rented faces. Just Elena, whoever that was underneath all of it, disappearing into a life quiet enough that no one would ever come looking.
She eased the penthouse window open with a suction cutter, glass parting with a soft kiss of a sound she’d heard a hundred times before. The security panel blinked red, then green, thanks to a chip she’d planted in the building’s server two weeks ago while posing as a fire inspector. Reyes was in Singapore until Thursday. His staff had the night off, courtesy of a spa voucher she’d mailed them herself.
Everything had been accounted for. Everything except the part of her, small and stubborn, that still counted down the seconds like a woman saying goodbye to someone she loved.
The safe was behind the false wall in the study, exactly where the blueprints said it would be. She had it open in four minutes — faster than she’d planned, her hands moving with a fluency that had nothing to do with thought anymore. The diamonds sat in a velvet tray, cold and indifferent to the fact that they were about to change her entire life.
She was reaching for them when her phone buzzed against her wrist. A single text, from a burner number she didn’t recognize.
Careful, Vivian. The real Elena Cross is making headlines tonight.
Elena went very still.
No one called her that. Not her real name, not paired with an alias, not in the middle of a job. The people who knew both names could be counted on one hand, and none of them would ever be careless enough to text it.
She pocketed the diamonds anyway — old habits didn’t die just because the ground had shifted and was halfway to the window when the television in Reyes’s study flickered on by itself, the smart screen responding to some command she hadn’t given it. A news anchor’s face filled the dark glass, mid-sentence, urgent.
”…multiple witnesses identify the woman as Elena Cross, thirty-four, wanted in connection with a jewelry heist in the Diamond District earlier this evening. Cross allegedly held two employees at gunpoint before….”
Elena’s stomach dropped through the floor.
She had been standing in this study for the last eleven minutes. She had cameras on herself, timestamps, a dozen small proofs that she had been nowhere near the Diamond District tonight.
None of that would matter. None of that had ever mattered to people who wanted a name to pin a crime to, and she had just watched her real one — the one she had buried under Vivian Hale, under Sarah Quinn, under Isabelle Marchetti and eight others before them get pinned to an armed robbery she had no part in.
Someone was using her face. Her name. Her life.
And they were doing it in real time, while she was three miles away robbing a man blind under a different one.
Her phone buzzed again.
You’re not the only one who knows how to disappear into someone else. Except I’m better at being you than you are.
The window she’d come through was still open, curtains breathing in the night air, and for the first time in fourteen years, Elena Cross felt the particular vertigo of a con artist who has just realized she is not the only player at the table.
Every name she’d ever worn had been a door she built herself, one she could walk through and shut behind her. This felt like someone had built a door shaped exactly like her and was already walking through it into her life.
She heard the sirens before she saw the lights, red and blue sweeping low across the skyline, closer than they should be, closer than random patrol would explain.
Someone had called this in. Someone who knew exactly where to send them.
Elena went to the window, six million dollars in diamonds forgotten in her pocket, and looked down at the street eleven floors below, where two squad cars were already pulling up to the building’s entrance — not Corbin Reyes’s building.
This building.
She had eleven minutes of a plan and zero minutes of an explanation for why the police were arriving at the exact address of a crime that hadn’t happened yet, in her name, timed to the second.
Someone knew where she was.
Someone had always known where she was.
And as she pressed herself against the wall beside the window, diamonds digging into her ribs, sirens climbing the building like a rising tide, Elena Cross understood with total, cold clarity that her last job had just become her first mistake — because for the first time in her career, she wasn’t being hunted for a crime she’d committed.
She was being framed for one she hadn’t even known was happening.….

Accidentally Crossing the Tycoon
Four years ago, the Bailey family faced a devastating financial crisis.
Just when bankruptcy seemed inevitable, a mysterious benefactor emerged, offering salvation with one condition: a contract marriage.
Rumors swirled about this enigmatic man—whispers claimed he was hideously ugly and too ashamed to show his face, possibly harboring dark, twisted obsessions.
Without hesitation, the Baileys sacrificed me to protect their precious biological daughter, forcing me to take her place as a pawn in this cold, calculated arrangement.
Luckily, in those four years, the mysterious husband never asked to meet in person.
Now, in the final year of our arrangement, the husband I've never met is demanding we meet face to face.
But disaster struck the night before my return—drunk and disoriented, I stumbled into the wrong hotel room and ended up sleeping with the legendary financial mogul, Caspar Thornton.
What the hell am I supposed to do now?
Bella and Her Beast
.
Locked in her frozen tower, Bella dreamed of warmth, of touch, of freedom and of love. Cursed with the power of ice and snow, she’s spent her life alone. A secret they tried to protect the world from. Her only escape comes in the form of the books she reads. Stories of heat, desire, and the kind of love that could melt even her frostbitten heart.
Damien is the Beast. A dragon King with a temper forged in flame and a soul hollowed by duty. The world fears him. The people call him a monster. But beneath the scales and the rage lies a man who has never been touched by love.
When frost meets fire, the world shatters. She was never meant to leave her tower. He was never meant to find her. But destiny doesn’t bow to kings or care for cages and now the question burns through them both: Can Bella have her Beast? Or will the girl of snow melt in the heat of his desire?
.
"I’m keeping her."
"What?"
Before I can react, he scoops her up. Her small body fits easily in the cradle of his talons. For a split second, she looks startled, but not afraid. Her hand rests against one scaled finger, and she stares up at him with that same curious wonder, as though she’s already forgotten she was ever meant to fear me.
"Put her down," I try to command, panic threading through my thoughts. "You’ll hurt her."
"She’s ours," the beast insists, possessive and fierce. "Our snowflake."

Heartbroken, Sable discovered Darrell having sex with his ex in their bed, while secretly transferring hundreds of thousands to support that woman.
Even worse was overhearing Darrell laugh to his friends: "She's useful—obedient, doesn't cause trouble, handles housework, and I can fuck her whenever I need relief. She's basically a live-in maid with benefits." He made crude thrusting gestures, sending his friends into laughter.
In despair, Sable left, reclaimed her true identity, and married her childhood neighbor—Lycan King Caelan, nine years her senior and her fated mate. Now Darrell desperately tries to win her back. How will her revenge unfold?
From substitute to queen—her revenge has just begun!
Pregnant by My Husband's Rival Alpha
Those words should have destroyed me, but the truth was worse: I'd been used as a broodmare by the man who swore to love me, set up in a hotel room with a stranger because Alexander Cross couldn't father children himself, and now I carried the secret babies of Damon Lester—the most powerful and dangerous Alpha in San Loris—while my own family replaced me with the daughter they'd always wanted. But when that same stranger's doctor appeared at my door, when twenty million dollars exchanged hands over a fake perfume bearing my secret identity, and when Damon's gray eyes locked onto mine with recognition I couldn't afford, I realized my carefully hidden life as the legendary perfumer Vera was colliding with a pregnancy that could cost me everything.
Could I protect my babies from the husband plotting my death, hide my true identity from the Alpha who's been hunting me for years, and reclaim the freedom I'd buried along with my dreams—even if it means standing alone against the wolves who see me as nothing more than a womb to be used and discarded?

The undefeated shadow queen of the underground fighting circuit. And the true heiress to a fortune that makes theirs look like pocket change.
Now my ex-fiancé begs on his knees. My fake sister's jealousy is eating her alive. And that cold, arrogant CEO who once threw our engagement contract in my face? He's hunting me down like a man possessed, desperate for one more chance.
They threw me away like trash to upgrade their lives.
Joke's on them.
I was always the upgrade.
